Title: C&C Haunted house room
Post by: aussie on Mon 23/06/2003 12:39:30
I'm working on a new game based around a haunted house. I'm just trying to strike the right "style" (if you've played Nick it and Run or Casablanca you'll might recognise my way of drawing rooms).

So far I've tried to recreate the haunte house feeling by putting in a mouse hole, candelabra and a few spider webs.

Still, I think it looks pretty plain.

Please C&C, be harsh.

Try to make stars outside of the window, reduce saturation and contrast. Draw dust on the floor and dirtspots on the wallpapers.

Don't reduce saturation or contrast, it's fine.. just needs more shading for light, should have the four squares of the window cast onto the floor and long shadows to the left.  I'd dirty it up like Vel said though.

It's missing an old portrait (of a creepy old man or something) on the wall ;)

It's great, keep up the good work!

- The wallpaper could use some water damage i.e. dirty blotches.
- The dirt should have less contrast with the floor, it looks like dandruff now. As we all know, dandruff isn't very scary.
- Behind the torn wallpaper you should add some woodwork. The 6 Day Assassin room comes to mind.

Suggestions for animation:
- Scary hands moving along the 'inside' of the walls as in "Seventh Guest" game and "The Haunting" movie.
- Scary flickering candlelight.

Great stuff, I'd love to see more horror themed AGS games around.

Great background! I have another suggesting for animation, you could have little red eyes flickering under the floor boards.

Think you should make the lightning even more dramatic by increasing the contrasts. Something like this:

Oooh, lovely! I dont like the increased contrast, loominous. Aussie I would have made the window light on the floor much longer if its coming from the moon or distant light. It would only be this short if its coming from a close source like a bulb outside the window.

Looks good, but for a haunted house I would say that everything looks too new and nice. I've made a littel edit, which I think made it all a little eerier...

Heheh...I see that I wasn't the only one that thought about adding the light from the window on the floor...but here goes anyway...
