In order to actually cut my teeth on AGS, I'm considering making my first game a fantasy sort of adventure starring a solitary Ranger.

Here is the preliminary default stance, at a dimension of 24x48. Tentatively named "Casey", this mild-mannered man quests across the land in search of self-improvement and general Ranger business. This may or may not include getting swept up in a definite quest.
He wears a blue tunic for a reason, if not only to stand out in front of the background. If it doesn't seem clear, note that the lighter color is meant to be a separate lining.
Comments and critiques are very much welcome.
I think it looks pretty nice.
I'm not a fan of black outlines, but it works well if the backgrounds have a style that doesn't clash with the black outlines.
I think the mouth shouldn't be a black line either, but again this is just my personal preference.
The stance seems nice, and the details (for so few pixels) are pretty good.
It's a clean piece. I would suggest lowering the color count (it looks like you have a few unecessary shades). Also, his right arm looks a bit lumpy, like a baguette that's been folded in half. The black outline works for me, although it gets a little heavy around the inside of his legs.
Here is a quick edit.
1. Adjusted right leg a bit.
2. Reduced feet size
3. Darkened skin shade
4. New face
5. Altered left and right arms
6. Removed one skin tone color

Hope this helps
Honestly, though of course this is a matter of opinion, overall I like the original sprite much better than that edit. The feet are better in the edit, but I don't think the darker skin color works, and the new face looks sullen and angry (which doesn't fit at all with the description of the character as "mild-mannered"). Actually, I don't see anything in the original sprite that I think really needs to be changed. I do prefer the feet of ProgZMax's edit, as I said, but that's a detail.
