Technical difficulties with the "h"...hopefully I will figure out how to fix that, for now just ignore that.

I feel like there should be more writing or logos or something but I'm not sure what I could add
by the way that's not my art

I was gonna say!!Ã, DAMN!!!
That's a great intro screen ... it gives all kinds of expectation for a great game!Ã, You better make sure the game is good ;)
I have a few friends that work for a golf course/country club type place called 'Tanglewood'.
What's the game about?
You should add:
New Game
Load Game
Options
Exit
stuff like that.
I'd also suggest [and i think it's only proper] to give credit to the original artist
Wow, it's incredible! Did someone else draw it, or is it a photo? Meaning to say, I would love to see a real tree like this! :D
edit: Oh wait, what am I saying, this couldn't be real could it? If it is, I want to live there! :D Definetly credit to the srtist there.
Are you drawing the letters bu hand, or making a font, or something?
Nice touch with the logos, looks a lot like it could be a box cover, or just some sort of promo art, but if it's the intro screen where you start and load a game, you'll need the buttons, naturally. I like having start, load, options, and quit. also, with a game this promising, maybe you'll have extra stuff to show as a bonus, once the player finishes the game or something, so a hidden extra button is always nice ;).
The screen really draws me in and brings curiosity.. :)
See, my opinion on this depends largely on the level of detail & quality found in the rest of the game.
When people see this, they are going to expect such a high level of character & background art within the game. I can't remember seeing any of your other stuff, so I can't comment on this, just something to think about.
I do like the title screen, by the way.
I wouldn't want this screen messed up by an option (load save quit) screen... perhaps if it was on a semi transparent gui, but wow, id love to see more from whomever did this.
isn't there a letter missing? It looks great, as has been said, give credit to the artist, like Scummbuddy said a semi transparent gui but make sure it goes well with the background
For this screen I would not even put AGS or your studio name on it. I would put those on separate screens preceeding this one.
It might be nice to have circular buttons it the style of your golden O for each option, like new game, quit, restore, etc. If you make them iconic that represent those things, they'd be simple at the bottom of the screen and not detract from the picture (while the ags and studio logo sort of do - because they're not vertically aligned, mainly).
And of course what everyone else is asking, did someone you know do the art, or what?? :o
Hobmoblin, he said they had technical difficulties with the "h".
When I read VeryWeirdGuy (dude, can't you change your nick to something simpler?) I immediately came to think of all the old console-games from the ninties...they all had covers that looked as intruiging as that one, and the graphics of the very game was most often appalling...
And I'm as curious as everybody else to know who the artist is.

Sorry dial-uppers ...
Make the black bars semi-transparent instead if you want to try that style.... and I'd still skip the "made in AGS". Gotta love playing with other people's pics, eh? I like the first option, down the side, better.
darths job is very nice, and i would accept that, but with relights idea of the semi transparent black bars.

I'll add that to my list.
QuoteWhat's the game about?
I don't want to spoil it for you...because I'm going to force you all to play it when I'm done.
QuoteWow, it's incredible! Did someone else draw it, or is it a photo?
Silly girl...it's a painting not a photograph.Ã, Actually it's an oil painting of Old Man Willow done by Dan & Tim "the Brothers" Hildebrandt (wierd, huh?).Ã,Â
Here is the original (looks better after I edited it, right?):

Here is an example of the graphics you will see in this game, which I made last night (I thought about putting it up for C&C, but I decided...I don't want criticisms haha) :

Okay...and here's Edit #2.Ã, Since I hate to obscure the beautiful scene, and since I need more than just a few options (they NEED to resume game and they NEED to see credits since I pirate so much of other artists work), I've decided to make the menu options popup from the bottom of the screen when you mouse over down there.
Before mouse over:

After mouse over:

What do you think?Ã,Â
PS - Still having technical difficulties with the 'h' :(
EDIT - I'll make the black bars a little bit transparent too.
Ah, of course, the Hildebrandts, should have recognized it.
I also recognize the textures on the ground on the in-game shot :P Looks nice, though. Wondering if the mountain backgrounds are composited in, or if you rendered those yourself?
Maybe don't have the black bar at the bottom first, but just have a tab, to show that there's something there. I dunno, not sure the best way to show that a popup will be available at the bottom of the screen... I wouldn't expect it there, I'd expect a popup or an appearing menu at the top of the screen in any type of application.
QuoteI also recognize the textures on the ground on the in-game shot
No you don't...I made those myself from digital photographs.

Dude... oh yes I do... not that I'm dissing your image or anything, I said I liked it... so I won't post the texture that both of us know you used :)

okay???
LOL yup :) I wasn't criticizing you though or anything :) I think you did a great job of putting those textures together with others into a map.
That old man willow looks really great!
But the river looks too muddy... I'd make it more blue to get that spring feeling. :)

Maybe my irony detector is still off (just woke up), but that's a dirt track, not a river.
he means the river in the willow tree picture
Wow. I'm impressed. The intro screen is awesome. The in-game screenshot is also really really good. Dang it, you've gotten me all excited about this game, which is something I try not to do with amateur games. ;)
:-X Speechless
Just GREAT; the pic really radiates that "Great Things To Come Feeling".
As for C&C... well, using pics from another artist is sort of okay if they match the overall look of the game, isn't it, but I'd always try to do all the graphics myself... but heck, it's a GREAT pic.
Get that game done- can't wait to see it!!!

That is an interesting idea. I do a bit of painting myself, so that is a possibility, although given the sheer volume of labor ahead of me on this game (modelling, animating, putting it together), that is doubtful.
However...this game represents a big "first" for me, because it will be my first AGS game, and my first experience modelling and animating, so I expect my skills in all of these areas will have imrpoved dramatically by the time I'm done...so I will probably make a new version or sequel or something and use all my own art that time.
But one thing is for certain...I'm going to keep using other people's music, because I can't stand MIDI music and the only music I can make is trance and I'm not very good at that even.
I can make punk techno and trance!
stuh, i can say for sure that you will improve over the time. as you grow more comfortable with ags you will be able to concentrate on other stuff. i'm defenitely eager to see your "first born". 8)
