heres my first background attempt. It mite be considered for a game, but its only my first try. ;D
anyway, here it is
(http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/first_proper_background.gif)
thanks
hey thats great Daz ;)
only c+c i can think of is the slight perspective problem, it could just be a style your going for or whatever! I like the shading ;D
and one last thing, if you were gonig to use it in a game just crop it down to 320x240, because at the moment its summit like 339x251 or summit.
newayz, it looks fine and dandy to me

That looks brilliant.. not a lot to critisise .. unless I was gonna be super critical and say that if the shovel is supposed to be buried it should maybe have some lines coming out from the side where it hits da ground :P
EDIT: In fact, I dont think the spade is in the ground :P Good Work.
hey thanks for the comments.
here's an edit.
as you can see i buried the shovel and added a tree. ;D
what else could i add, i feel its lacking detail but not sure what?
thanks
That looks great for some reason it reminds me of some of the backgrounds in The Fairly Odd Parents...
The background looks great ;D!
But, since you want us to nitpick it :P:
It is nighttime, but how come the snow is so light, judging from the shadows, the lightsource is the moon, but it's partially covered with a cloud, and it's not even full moon. Also the side of the chimney is shadowed, but the roof under it isn't.
Looks pretty good to me. I don't think you need much more, but how about: a child's toboggan, eavetroughs, a pile of firewood, old Christmas tree lights (not turned on necessarily)? Any or all of those might give it that added detail you want. Just a few ideas.
cheers everyone, i have heeded your advice and have made another edit and has more details including a little pair of wellies. ;D
here it is.
that ok?
thanks again
- Daz
ohh it has such a nice mood to it. I say it looks great, all you need to do now is fill the entire moon with yellow, make it a full moon. go on :P
Btw, i really love the tree. Infact i think that your art is brilliant for a first timer. With work, and practice i think you'd make a great pixel artist... seriously
-OSC
Perfect!!!
Oh, and make a full moon. ;D
u have requested it so here it is.
perfect u say, hmmm
ta muchly
-Daz
I reckon that looks great!! 8)
What drawing program did you use?
All my graphics look quite bad as I use PSP (Paint Shop Pro).

Ah, PSP. No, you can't make good graphics with that ::)
Hehe. :P

psp is brlliant in my opinion but im just a crappy ms paint user at the moment :'(
Nice work on this building, If you use it in the game I recommend the snow plugin
I need a reccomendation on a good drawing program. All I have is Paint (Boring), PSP (Told you about that), ArtGem (Shareware, Can't save). The way I get around ArtGem being shareware is when I finish my picture, I take a screenshot, Paste it in PSP, Crop my picture from the program, Paste as new image, Save. ;D The only problem is it is very time consuming and it looks slightly blurred. (I need to upgrade my resources)
LOL!!! i used ms paint,
about your rekomendation im not sure wat would be best for you but as u can see ms paint works find for me, but if you are looking for something else then i suggest looking ay the big list of paint programs at the top of critics lounge.
thanks alot.
-Daz
Btw- i'd love to get my hands on psp, all i have is ms paint at the moment ;D
yeh Daz, wonder where you could get a copy of that :P ;D
great work daz
-OSC
So would you all say it is perfected now? or is there yet more to add.
i just read what OSC said about me having the potential to be a pixel artist, :o WOW thats the last thing i expected to read :o
thanks everyone for the great comments
-Daz
ps- OSC can i call you by your real name?? lol
I wouldn't call it 'perfect' just yet ;)
But it's getting better and better!
The main thing I could see that was missing (in my opinion) were hi-lights:
Quick Paint-over:
- added hi-lights to the snow and clouds
- added a 'gutter' on the overhang of the roof.
- shadowed the house more (out from the lit window)
It was done quickly (on my part), so if you spend more time on it, you'll get it just right!
I think we can see the magic of the critics lounge, i did a edit which im pretty pleased with
Comparison:
my edit of your LATEST version
(http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/SUperDazedit.gif)
Basically what ive done is just filled the outlines with a darker colour of the one insiside the outlines. I cleared up a few stray pixls, And for the snow i took away the outlines and added light shines on the snow, it is icy afterall ;).
i Hope it helped daz,
keep up the good work
-OSC , no my real nam ;)
Great edit OSC. I love the snow in your version! I think clouds and moon were better before though (spiral clouds somehow don't match style of the rest pic).
wow cheers guys,
great edits, i have taken them plus some help from inkoddi on the colour of the snow and merged them all in to this...
i re-added the black lines in places i thought it was needed and as i said played around with the colours and gave up, so i got inkoddi to do it ::)
thanks guys who did the editing and the helping, lets give it more perfecting :P
-Daz
more perfecting, ::)
i say start on another background, give this one a well needed break.
