Title: C&C on new character :UPDATE (again):
Post by: Haddas on Sat 26/06/2004 00:23:36
Hi.

I'm making a new game, which I intend to finish. If I manage to get this bi**h right and animated, then I might not become depressed and quit making games again :P.

Anyhoo...

(http://img29.photobucket.com/albums/v86/Haddas/Drawings/hooks.gif)(http://img29.photobucket.com/albums/v86/Haddas/Drawings/hooks2.gif)(http://img29.photobucket.com/albums/v86/Haddas/Drawings/hooks4.gif)

I was going to draw him another hand, but I couldn't get it right, so he'll just have to use a hook temporarily. If someone could please tell or show me how to draw hands, I'd appreciate it...

P.S: No shading has yet been applied because of it making animating harder

and yeah,
C&C welcome.

This guy looks really good. I like the hook hand too - it;s bizarre and give the charracter a bit of a background story from just looking at him - i'd leave him with it (although it might be a bit hard for him to wipe his butt).

the only thing that bothers me is - if he has a collar it's too small, but if he doesn't it's a bit square. Appart from that I think he's ace and want to have his baby.

thanks! I'm still not happy with the hand though. Are there any masters of drawing hands on these forums??

Evils abs and neck veins look good, I suggest changing the feet  so it looks like he is wearing shoes instead of socks

I don't know ... might have altered it too much:

I got the impression he was kind of a meat-head (weight lifter) and you wanted him somewhat bulky.  Also, that you wanted him to have a large jaw bone area.

Anyway ... hope it helps.

That's nice. I would maybe go for that, but then I'd have to redo all other characters in a similar style :/ I will use the hand as reference material though.

About Hooks. He is an ex underground heavy-weight wrestling champion. Someone bet lots of money on him and got pissed off when he lost a match. So the guy took Hooks out, cut off one of his hands, and dumped him in a, for Hooks, unknown country. But now I want to know how he gets the hook...

Pixel hands are hard to draw - just so long as it looks handish you should be cool. At that reso fingers will only be 1-2 pixels wide so there's not alot of room to manouver.
All I'd do is have a light skin colour and a dark skin colour (both of which you have) and use the darker one to emphasise shadow and the lines between fingers - which you have done. With the palete you are working with I whink youv'e done really well.
