I could use some suggestions for this basic background.  It's nothing too exciting, rocky hillside with a tree at the top there, some clouds in the sky and nothing much more.  I just wonder does it seem too steep? How can I make it look a bit more walkable? If you understand what I'm saying...  You all are so good at pointing out what I can't see!

The tree looks great and so do the clouds. I think the main thing wrong is the ground, it looks great and very detailed but it's a bit too dark. Same for the sky, is it supposed to be nighttime?

The main light source (sky) direction is not compatible with the ground lighting.
Unless the viewer is radiactive and is iluminating all those pebbles.  ;D ;D

It's late afternoon I'd say, that's what I'm feeling.  So should I make the pebbles darker  in the middle area where they are most bright?  I think I'll try a few things and then get back on it maybe tonight - or I'll do it tomorrow, depending on how my nerves are after the PD test today.

I love the sky and tree. They look great.

You're right about the ground, it looks flat/steep.

Maybe try making the bottom part larger making it seem closer to the viewer.

Looking at it again it's probably mostly a perspective problem with the ground. It's almost like we're looking at it top-down, rather than from the side. I'm not sure how you'd correct that quickly.

the clouds and the trees appear to be back lit, so the hillside should be too.  the most light would be along the top edge.
