Title: C&C on problem room
Post by: S on Mon 30/06/2008 14:09:05
Hi. I thought I didn't want more C&C now, as I've been getting more confident. However, I can't seem to get this room right. In this room the view changes to the first person perspective, so there need not be room for the sprite. Somehow, though, it just doesn't feel right. I might want to redo the whole room on account of the boring perspective, but I think you can have the odd room with one vanishing point, for the sake of variety.
Help, suggestions, paintovers: all very welcome

There's nothing inherently wrong with the perspective; then again the viewpoint and the "closeness" of the perspective make it look like you're a very small person in a very small room.
Like a frog in a big locker, instead of a person in a room.

Well it does look like thats the case. Big books, a big lantern, a big chest...

S, what is the story behind this scene?

I'm not sure so much that the room looks big as much as the person looks small...

As with above I think it'd help to know the context if the shot, but from what's available it looks like the objects in the room are a little on the large side.

I like the perspective though, don't think it makes it look boring at all...

Andail: I think you nailed it. The view-point is too close to the floor. No way to easily amend that., hafta do it from scratch, then. Ah, well.

The protagonist is a somewhat diminutive teenage girl, but she's not THAT short.

Come to think of it, it looks like a crawl space.....even if its not suppose to be that. It looks correct if you think of it that way. :D

It's not so much the view point but the size of the object. The room is just four times as high as the books on the left.
The chest is half as high as the room.

You are right, too. Back to the drawing board.

Remember that this a first person perspective scene. So the low view point does matter.
With a character sprite moving around, it wouldn't really matter where you put the "camera".
