The littlest walkcycle

Because of a huge stroke of lack of genius, I actually decided to try another semi-humanoid figure again, this time WITHOUT having it be a shoddy paintover of the templates from kafkaskoffee.com. I also made it for Gameboy-esque restrictions (because of the MAGS, obviously), which means multiples of 8 pixels for width/height and 4 colors.  :=

Anyway. The side walkcycle took the most of four hours, and it's extremely eggagerated, but I'm actually quite pleased with it. I'd still like the hear some suggestions on how to improve it, though:

(no transparency 'cause I can't figure out this stupid gif animator)

(wil be flipped for other direction)

The other up and down cycles, however...

Any suggestions on how to make them less horrible?

Yeah, make as many frames as with the side view (4 or so) and then... make him rotate as with the side view. And then... move the hands like in the side view and then... yeah.

I made a couple of edits for you.  One thing I noticed is that the program you're using places some random palette glitches in the frames, so you might want to use a different one.

1.  Reduced the frame count of the original from 8 to 4 frames.  I could see very little differences in the additional frames (aside from the white pixel), and generally the smaller you go with sprites the fewer frames you're going to need.

2.  Made his near arm and leg in the side view grey instead of black to help the eye follow the animation.  Also added some vertical movement on each down step.

One thing you might try is using a slightly larger body with large hands and feet so you can show them move more clearly.

Although the original side walk cycle looks really nice, it seems to me that it would only be valuable in a cutscene - I'd have thought he's moving too slowly for practical use in game.

All my trophies have disappeared... FINALLY! I'm free!

Yeah, these look pretty great - thanks, ProgZ! I'll fiddle around with them a little and see if there's anything I need to change, but chances are they'll be plainly stolen and used as templated for other characters in the game.  :P

I think that he looks to be walking to much like a cowboy, you should use ProgZ's edit as a guideline for a normal person's walk.
