Title: C&C Updated New Engine Room
Post by: Gfunkera on Thu 26/08/2004 23:03:18
Hey, all here is "The Hyper Engine" Room.  I'm looking for some c&c and maybe some ideas of what else I could add to the room. I believe I'm on the right track and found a style I like and can hopefully stick with, is there anything I might to do to help keep the same style from bg to bg.  :=

As you can see its a scrolling bg.

Final Version

What I've Done

- added texture to lights
- adjusted colors more like darths edit
- used Darths idea for engines added extra grill
- fixed pipe coming from hd-2 to hd3
- added a door button
- fixed the shading
- fixed pipe going into first engine on the left
- adjusted toolbox perspective a bit
- Removed cracks on walls
- Removed crack from pipe (LMAO, but I did)
- fixed some perspective problems
- removed some double pixels (oooopps)
- learned lots & lots from this yay!  (http://www.agsforums.com/yabb/Themes/classic/images/post/xx.gif)

It looks good. Removing the double pixels on the pipes would make the image look much cleaner. The only serious issue witht the image is the cast shadow from the generators. They dont correspond with the lights above.

Agreed.
Also, when you're not using anti-aliasing, the outlining can sometimes stick out too much. I would consider removing the outlining.
You can also try to vary the colour of the walls and other surfaces so that they correspond with the light-setting. That will create more depth to the picture.
If you want to, I could illustrate it by making a little edit for you later.

Apart from that, it looks really good.

The door isn't correct in perspective view, the top line doesn't go to the vanishing point :)

nice background

I like the image and had to look at it for awhile before getting picky with a paintover ...

- brightened the whole thing and adjusted the contrast a little
- fixed some perspective issues (pipes going in front/behind other pipes)
- fixed door perspective
- added some shading/hilights
- adjusted floor/ceiling lines on back wall
- altered first machine (just to give more detail ideas)
- adjusted lines on 'tools' box
- removed some double pixels

Hope it helps!

Perspective on the pic of spanner on tool box looks wrong to me. It draws my attention from the rest of the pic.

Keep the same colour scheme and have the same type of machinery in each one
also you might wanna have NPC's working the machines

GPTW.. The first machine is darths paintover to give demorgon ideas of what to do. And you dont put npc in background when you are c=cing them, its just pointless.

Dem, I wold edit that pipe which is leaking. i would put maybe a puddle on the ground and (if your game is humerous sp) put like one of those folding signs that normally say caution slippery surface but with maybe, caution radioactive waste. Maybe that made sense

I hawe one question. The pipes that conect the 3 machines. If the right most machine is a bit behind the midle one howcome the pipes are bent foward?

ok here is my point of this (i may be hard)

*work on the shading, the shadows are really light(take a look at what Darth Mandarb did)
*the crane in the corner is really small, work on that
*the pipes from 2 to 3 machine, work on that
*also, if this is radioactive then this leaking in the corner could killl the person
*there is missing a line in the upper right corner of the machines fix that
*fix those black lines in the toolbox
*fix the perspective on the door(take a look at what Darth Mandarb did)
*add some detail on the machines(take a look at what Darth Mandarb did)
*the door is missing a piece to open it, here are couple of choices to open it:
*movement sensor on the upper half
    *a button
*a card, eye or finger identifier

is it just me or is the perspective on the pipe lines from tha machine to the wall way off? if so, fix that

Ok here is an update, I tried to use c&c from everyone. Feel Free more c&c... Any ideas for that god awfull toolbox?

- added texture to lights
- adjusted colors more like darths edit
- used Darths idea for engines added extra grill
- fixed pipe coming from hd-2 to hd3
- added a door button
- fixed the shading
- fixed pipe going into first engine on the left
- adjusted toolbox perspective a bit ( I'm begining to hate that toolbox )

I'm still wondering what I shall do with that cracked pipe. It was originally thought to be a pipe with just wires running through but it could be plutonium :) But yes it probally would kill someone. Anywho here it is...

Title: NEW Vs. OLD
Post by: Gfunkera on Mon 30/08/2004 17:53:20
Ok, So here are some old version & some new versions w/ a lil' c&c. The only thing I'm realy worried about is not keeping a consistent style for each background?

The Bridge Old Version                                          The Bridge New Version
(http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/oldbridge.PNG) (http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/bridgenew.PNG)

Hallway Old Version                                                Hallway New Version
(http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/hall.PNG) (http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/dmhall.PNG)
And I beleive the final version of the Engine Room
(http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/dmengine01.PNG)

C&C still welcome, I still think maybe my bridge is a lil' empty any ideas?

The newer version of the bridge is great ;)

The hallway is much improved as well.

The engine room ...

I might suggest removing the cracks on the walls in the engine room.

If the engine room is on that ship, I don't think the walls would be made of concrete?

Who knows??Ã,  It just looks out of place now that I see it's on a space ship.

Darth, I agree with you...the cracks should go or maybe have a lighter color...they kinda look like branches or something...demorgon, you're still a great artist, tho'.

I think it adds more atmosphere to the hallway, look at the hallway before demorgon added the poster and the lights and the panel and look after...which ones better?    ;)

Is it supposed to be a comedy or what?  Howbout Star Drek lol  Ther's lots of names you could use.  Following Battlestar you could use Hypership Tomorrow  I dunno, that one sounds pretty funny, now that I look at it.

I played a bit, mostly with perspective...

* added more nuclear goo to the pipe (uh, uh, yeah, nuke-waste, uhuh)
* tried to fix perspective inside toolbox (not too sure if ok)
* same with white note on the left
* removed some double-pixels

* changed curved wall to two straight panels and one slight curve.
* straightened back corridor and door (I think it looks better this way - you choose)
* applied (more or less) same perspective to the poster as to the panel behind
* removed some double-pixels
* fixed bottom of the front door (bent sliding doors would be way too hard to animate...)

Title suggestions (thinking of a humorous Space-Opera):

"2069: Spaced Out And Away"
"Stars Ahoi!"
"Spacepirates - Free But Lost"
"Outlaws Of Orion"

Wow, that are some major improvements on your BG's, good work.

I repainted the captain a bit:

I have:
-fixed the "puppy" nose
-gave him some abs
-fixed black lines
-fixed double pixels
-his sideview shows that his hands are beside his body, but on the front view it looks like his hands are behind him, fixed that

I like indeed Damien  ;D I'll post the updated version soon  :=

Also is there a way I could fade the images together like the AGS menubar above on my banner instead of just crop & pasting them?
