This character is supposed to be a conman priest. I like the way it turned out, but I think I could use some advice on shading.  Any pointers are appreciated!  :)

Get an action figue and point a light at it. you will get the general ideas of the darker and lighter areas from that. but it has to be coming from the same direction as in the scene if you get my words.

Cool.
I think a stylised sort of shading might be better for this picture than what would actually work in real life.
Try cating a dark shadow over his eyes and maybe most of his face. Maybe make the lightsource come from below him, like when you shine a torch under your face.

Or you could just leave him as he is, RON characters don't usually have much shading...

Here's a rough suggestion:

I'm not sure where you were going with the nose, so I guessed a bit there.

Is this the kind of thing you were looking at, or something more detailed?

Definitely have the light coming from below... from the front it makes him look too honest, and light coming from above often tends to suggest holiness of some sort (and you definitely don't want that for this guy).

A tie, a suit and not so strong shading color.
and you'll have PERFECT lawyer!!!!

Well, priest is about same...
I'd add wrinkles to his clothes using shade color and change a shading direction a bit.

Thanks Steve.  That looks great.

You guys are right about trying to shade down from below.  I'll see what I can do.  Thanks again!

That is a really useful idea.
