Title: Character For World War II Adventure
Post by: ScottDoom on Tue 25/11/2003 06:19:43
My friend made this tonight in MS Paint for our upcoming game (http://www.agsforums.com/yabb/index.php?board=8;action=display;threadid=9662). What do you guys think?

This is pretty good!

What resolution is your game going to be at 'cause this is gonna be huge in the game!
EDIT - Read the Games In Production thread about the resolution!

I like the black outline ... the only spot the black outline looks 'off' is the nose/mouth area.  I would use a darker skin tone to do those areas but that's just me! Also ... there's some doubling of the black lines in the lower pants/boots area and the lapels of his coat.  Is that shading?

This looks cool!

Now animate it :)

We're going for the 800x600 resolution. Heh heh. So... I think it will fit. Otherwise, we could go for the 640x480 and possibly scale the character down, or use all scrolling backgrounds. At the moment, we currently lack a background artist.
Edit: Heh heh. Ok. ;D

The black outline on the nose does look a little
strange...

Oh, and our artist will have an animation tomorrow hopefully. He's sleeping right now.

Sleep is for the weak  ;D

I think big characters would look cool in a game.  I think most people avoid bigger characters because it requires more detail to pull it off.  Especially in animations!

I wish I had more time on my hands to help out!  I love making backgrounds and WWII is my favorite History Study (I've studied it for over a decade!) ... I just have too much on my plate :(

Keep up the good work and I look forward to the animation (tomorrow!!)

cheers,

Wow, absolutely mental. The eyes are perhaps a little square, though. Do you think you could round them up a little to suit the general style?

Interference, I made the eyes a little more round (I think). I also slightly adjusted the nose, and erased few stray pixels from his left arm. I also colored his white undershirt to a grey.

Darth Mandarb, I tried changing the nose outline color to a dark skin color, but it didn't look right.

That is the funniest looking nazi ever! There isn't anything to complain about, I hope you finish your game.

He looks kinda scrunched.. Like a midget.

Or maybe you scaled it weird? I dunno, it doesn't look natural. Like his shins were blown off by the Japs!!

That's what we were going for. The characters Rolf and Joachim were inspired by the characters Sam and Max. Rolf, who will be drawn next week, is a very tall and pale older man with a blonde mustache. Joachim (this character) is a very short man (who still maintains an average width).

It might be just me, but the head looks a little flat compared to the rest of the drawing. I think it's the way you've varied the line widths on the body, and the head is only single pixel thickness. Still, it's a hell of a lot better than what I could do..
