Title: Character help
Post by: BorisZ on Wed 22/09/2004 23:29:22
Here is (first version of) character for my new game. He is something like inlectual version of Larry Laffer. But I can't get it right in front view. Any help / sugestions / comments?

- He lacks some detail in his body.
- You might want to make the walking animation smoother because now it looks like it doesn't have enough walking frames to make it smooth.
- His skin is not the right colour for skin (that might be intentional).
- It lacks colour, his head is made of of like 3 colours, try putting a bit of grey in his hair (he does look oldish)
- Make him 'bob' up and down when he walks and (like the fairy in the other topic) make his belly jiggle

Edit*
- Also he jumps foward a bit, when in the game this may be distracting when he moves
- Try to make the blue box that he is in the same size for every frame, I don't know why but it helped me when I was doing my walking frames for my game coming soon.

Sorry to be picky on everythingÃ,  :-[
good luck,

Actually, the 'jump' Raider mentioned isn't that noticable when he's moving. However, in frames 2, 4, and 6 his bum stretches out of shape, and that's a little distracting. It looks like he's scratching himself inside his pants.

About the colours - it depends on the backgrounds you're using as to whether you need to add more. As to detail, it looks fine as it is, but if you're going to use the textured-look for his cardigan, you might need to add more detail to his trousers and face.

Front view - can't really say anything without seeing it, but I have trouble turning my chars too (one of the many reasons I haven't finished a game yet.)

I guess your right, but another thing I noticed is the foot bends up on when he walks, Im not sure what frame.
What type of backgrounds are you going to be using?

Yes, I got to do something with my bum :-[
Backgrounds will be painted (not 3d rendered if that's what you mean). Front view help anyone?

Good, a bit too fast and it looks like theres a racoon in his pants or something. Either that or his ass is made of jelly.

-His torso is quite stiff compared to his legs. Your arms aren't stiff when your walking- try moving them down slightly and creasing the pockets each time he makes a step.
-As Raider pointed out, the front part of his foot bends up in one frame, try moving his whole foot up instead.
-Try keeping his head in the same place in every frame but have him dip his head a pixel or two in one frame- I think this will make it look much smother (especially if you slow it down).

Good luck,
