This is my first time in the forums so I hope I'm not getting ahead of myself by posting a new topic straight away. But anyway, I made this background and I'm kinda new at pixelart (or any art for that matter) and I was wondering if anyone could give me a few tips. Some things I know need changing, but can't quite get, is the angle of the floor boards at the bottom of the image, also the window i think maybe needs some depth and the room as a whole needs shading. There's a few perspective problems aswell. Anyway thanks in advance and here's my background...

I think you have a good sense when it comes to the basics of pixel-art; you have a clear, clean style and you construct good surfaces with nice colours.
However:
* The perspective has gone haywire. This might well be the least correct background I've ever seen perspective-wise. There are a ton of tutorials when it comes to basic one-viewpoint perspective systems. It's not hard to carry out.
* Composition-wise you've assigned a good portion of the background to the floor, which is sensible when it comes to game backgrounds. On the other hand, the floor space seems a tad empty, don't you think? You might consider filling it with objects that are normally found in an office.

I must agree, you have selected nice colours.
But the perspective is waaaay off.

You should read tutorials mentioning this.
For example http://www.olejarz.com/arted/perspective/

The trick is in that you must select a vanishing point (or two, three,...)
and all the lines must go to that point...

Keep up the good work
;)

Thanks for the replies, is there any way you could maybe draw over my image where the lines of the walls and floor should go? Just so I can get something to work from. Thanks  :)

Wow, this was really hard!
I was confused when drawing this, but I am finally done.Ã,  ;D
However, probably the best way for you is to start over from beginning, but that's only my opinion.

Here are the lines you wanted:

Do you now understand ?

I hope they are right, I am no expert either.

I think you can learn from screenshots from other games and from other bg's here in Critics Lounge.

Ah, now I get it! Thanks a lot, I am gonna start again and those lines really help me visualize it. Thanks!  ;D
