Title: Character side-front view
Post by: Erwin_Br on Mon 31/05/2004 16:14:04
Hi guys,

I already made the side-view of this character a while back and today I attempted to draw her facing the front.

I was wondering if there's anything I can do to make her look more like the side-view (if that's neccisary at all) and if there are other, general things, I should improve.

Cheers!

To be honest, I much prefer the front view to the side one. For one thing, the side view's ladybumps look like two potatoes glued to her chest... on the other hand, the pics are both much better than what I could do. She has a kind of "secretary" look to her.. is that intentional. In fact, she looks very like Janeway...

Forget about the hand and the hip, because she's not always placing her hand on her hip. (And not always on the same hip, hehe). It's an idle animation.

Anyway, what do you mean with light from one point? Of course the light's from one point; there's only one sun?

Hmmm, I'm not too sure about her 'potatoes' either. It's the best I can do, I'm afraid. Maybe someone has a better idea and willing to demonstrate with an edit?

No, but I'm obviously not going to draw this character with shadows from every light source. I mean, this character alone is already going to have more than 100 frames! Imagine the work  ;D

Well, as it is now...

Her face in front view looks more like an upside-down triangle than it does in the side view.

Her figure definitely needs to be reworked. I'd suggest starting with basic geometric shapes around a central curve.

Right now, your lines look very hesitant, as if you're unable to decide on a firm outline.

too out the larger chin, added the swoop to the highlight in her hair on the sideview, relaxed her arm and shaded the breasts differently oh and darkened the skin shadow a touch.

dunno if it helps but for a side view it's just fine.

i can make the obvious mental leap there's a front view and a side view so it's just fine.

the skin shadows look too dark now, i think.

also i noticed that her mouth in the side view is wider than in the front view, but it should be skinnier due to the angle.  this is more apparent with colossal's edit of cutting in the bulbous chin (which is good)

I agree about the lighting, that edit looks as though her face has been illuminated with a torch.

Hmmm, interesting. I don't think I see which parts would benefit from your suggested approach. Could you point me a little further into the right direction, please?

I do sort of agree with what you say about her lines being hesitant, but it doesn't bother me too much, frankly. Maybe that'll change when you show me the light, thoughÃ,  ;D

Thanks, Eric! There are quite some very helpful changes in your edit. The shading on her chest is definitely better this way, and I also love what you did with her face and hand! I'm not sure about the darker shading on her face, though.

Thanks again, very helpful!

Back to the drawing board it is! :D
