Logo Design

This is entirely unrelated to games so it could possibly be moved to General but meh.. here i go.

Ok so I'm designing a portal website for a company and my visual design skills are fairly poor.
I want to go for a corporate look using the colours red, black and white.. possibly grey.

I think we can agree that that in fact says "Kills Suk" which is not really the message they are going for.

here is my attempt to keep the same basic style but try to alleviate that problem



I clearly failed.

So my question to AGSers is if you were redesigning this logo from scratch, how would you do it?

I'd suggest making a contrast in the words SKILLS and UK, like sans-serif and serif, italic and regular, black and white, red block background and outlined block.

Just remember that logo should look good in all sizes and would be really good if it can be recognizable even when in grayscale form. What you did right now is not that recognizable and doesn't really seem like a logo, I think the problem might be too many fonts (or at least it looks like there's three fonts and four colors (white, black, gray and red), which is a bit too much IMO since there are only 2 words - use 2 fonts and 3 colors, one being background).

Oh, and just for your info - logo design is usually charged extra.  8)

I am of course no designer, but I would say they should abandon the original concept completely (Btw, I think it reads "S kills UK!"

but the font does need to change. Skills and US need to be separate fonts.
Otherwise it kind of looks like "Kill Sucks"

Haha, I actually read the first post as 'skill suk', I don't think this company thought their title through very well...

I'm not sure the 's kills uk' works, I think the 's' needs to be the same as the rest of the skills word, otherwise it really does look like s kills uk. Sorry I'm not much help without an actual example but maybe if I have time later today I'll mock something up.
