Painting for crits

Here we have a completely original picture made by me. I dont think its great but it's pretty much the extent of my ability. I made it using Corel Painter IX. C+C.

Main crit: there's nothing to crit

The sky's quite nice, I like the cloud effects, but apart from that there's nothing to really look at. It's hard to criticize just a patch of green grass. But, having said that, I think the horizon is too high. I've never seen a semi-serious painting where the picture is just split across the middle and the top half is blue and the bottom green.

I agree with lgm, though. You picked a beautiful texture. It looks like you've picked one of the acrylic or conte brushes?

I used accrylics and blenders. And a bit of sponge. What i was wanting to know is if it looked like what its supposed to be.

I just tried that myself, mixing the acrylics with the blenders, and it does give a really nice effect! I'm definitely gonna muck around with it some more...

As for looking how it's supposed to... I guess that's really for you to decide. I don't know what you were after. If it was simply a grassy hill with a blue sky and some clouds, I'd say you've got it perfectly. If you were after the 'pretty' factor, then I think you've got that, too. Anything else, though, is really beyond my judgement.

The painterly effects are icing on the cake.

The clouds, and the grassy hill, are not well done (sorry).  It looks like a child's drawing.  I've never seen a cloud that was a white blob in the sky, nor a natural field with that color of grass.

I suggest that you look at a photograph and try to emulate what you see.  Once you get good at that, then you can make the move to abstract if you want...but you can't do abstract well if you can't do real well.

I wouldn't worry too much about trying to get the 2.5D effects in Painter to make your picture look snazzy...first you need to learn where to put paint!

I realise that the clouds are a bit kiddish. I tried for the wispy melted marshwellow kind of effect, but i'll practise some more. I'll start looking at some photos and update this thread when i have an updated version.
