Title: Concept art for a character.
Post by: Ali on Wed 09/02/2005 11:57:21
I had a go at a kind of shading I'd never really attempted. I've been working on concept art for a character (not specifically for a game). I wondered what people thought.

He's a scientist by the way.

That's good, although he looks more like a... magician? Try giving him small round glasses :P

Really good otherwise, no crits.

I thought 'Aristocrat', which might link to Trapho's 'vampire' - it's probably that the coat looks more like a frock-coat kinda thing than a lab coat, which tend to button up past the waist (in my limited experience), and not have such high collars. Also, for some reason the face reminds me of Alan Cumming (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001086/). I don't know if this is a good thing or not.

I thought it was a very rich man, that is going on some kind of expedition(the coat) he actually doesn't like too much(the worried-like expression on his face)

My first thought was "The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy".
Very Tim Burton-esque style. Would love to see a game drawn like that.
That said, he looks like a very dandy scientist, but that might be his style.
As for what he looks like... I'm pretty sure nobody can tell by my appearance what I do for a living.

great job, it reminds me a little of the art of the original 'adams family'.  also this kind of inkwash style is often used for gag cartoons, like in the NewYorker.  nice character.
