Title: Concept character "Trapped in the past" (need c&c!)
Post by: Minimi on Thu 16/10/2003 13:18:56
I'm not that big of a drawing artist, but I'm learning, and after about 10 hours of trying and trying and trying I drawed this at paper.

I scanned it, and it took me several hours to colour it, because of all the white dots, and I did my best to remove the most, and correct some lines. I think this is my best character I have ever made untill now, but I need some of you people to critisize it, so I can improve more. here it is :

I've realized what it is about your drawings that makes them more visually interesting to me. You tend to include a lot of little details in the clothing the characters wear (IE: the belt hanging off of the trenchcoat, the pleats in his pants, the two buttons on his vest).

You see a lot of personality in the clothes your people wear. Does this make sense, or am I nutty?

Fuck that picture is huge!!!

Can you please make the forum picture smaller, and have the larger version as a link. Have respect for those on dial-up!

How did you scan it? You should use the line art option for this style of art (or grayscale, and then apply the threshhold filter to it). Then you should just be able to flood fill everything, without any white dots..

Cool character. Although it may not work in a game in it' current style.

How many games are you making now?

Layaboogie : Sorry, I'll fix that later.

Ben : Thanks for the advice, but at the moment that I drawed it I didn't figure about scanning it, so it was pretty tough removing all the blue, though I did greyscale it.

Eggie : Yes, I'm a fan of Jack Orlando, and I took him as an example, you saw that right, though this DID was some very educative for me, and it improved my skills, i think.

Hmm... I know... I'm making 3 at the moment..
Sam&Moos, almost finished
Trapped in the past, which will take ages to complete, long project
Albino Virus II, got about a few rooms for it, and a character completed.

That lego land idea, was be second thought just STUPID, and Undeniable is at a hold, though Im not sure if I'll continue it, but throwing it just away is also a waste... and Phone Booth, and Escape from Shawshank are also on the hold ;) Happy now??

Damnit, minimi, for someone who says he's not much of an artist, your stuff is pretty damn good.  Every time you post a sketch I really, really like it.  The only problem is that your style I think would be difficult to translate to game-sized resolution, due to the amount of detail you generally include.  I suppose this is just concept art, but keep us updated on what you do with this guy.

I say we start a new contest: "How many game ideas can Minimi create, work on for 2 days, then start another one!?"

MMmm... Alino Virus II, Trapped in the past, Sam & Moos, Lego Adventure (Which includes a letter demmanding permission to Lego  ;D), Undeniable, Phone Boot and Escape from Shawshank...

That´s what I call a good example of "What not to do" when talking of game project planning  :P .

You´re a n00b... but with possibilities  :)

But I want you to focus in one game! 3-d game, if I can choose!

You´re talented with that Corel Bryce whatever... I´m sorry to say that your 2-d is not so good, IMO.
