Right, I am starting a band called Bullets for Beloved. It's a Christian rock band (but not preachy like other Christian rock bands)
Anyway, our first album is going to be called Death of a Hero, so here's what it looks like so far:

Basically, it's a skull wearing a gas mask in front of his honorary funeral parade/ funeral in the middle of nowhere...

And also, here's our band logo:

Originally, there was going to be a different debut album, but right now the project seems a bit big for a debut album. (Which will be called The Inventing Room, and is a metaphor as God as an Inventor.)

Anyways, what are your thoughts on how the cover looks?

I have a suggestion. How about a white background, with a rose and a pistol?

Actually, that's not a bad idea. But I kind of want to keep it basic. (Although two guns in front of a full moon is rather pointless)
*Sits and thinks*

Sounds far too similar to

ManicMatt

The death of a hero cover.

First I must say I love the band logo here! And the cover is almost pro looking, but not quite there yet..

My issues are:

The mask doesn't sit comfortably on the background. I don't know what to suggest though.

The subtitle isn't very clear to see as it's blending in with the background a little bit.

I think the soldiers and the coffin should be more of a focus for the cover. Right now they're barely noticable.

If you hadn't told me there was a skeleton under the mask I wouldn't have known it was. I wouldn't know WHAT is was!

Also your gas mask thing reminds me of...

and..

and finally..

Hard to be original, isn't it?!

Years after I made an album called "unstable", Adema released an album called Unstable too! Curse them!

try not to use bryce for your backgrounds. As a 3d artist i usually tell others that if they plan to use 3d in their work use good 3d. bryce was never concidered to be good 3d (sorry to all the bryce users out there.)

Alliance, may I start by wishing you all the best of luck with your band, is there any Christian/secular bands already out there that you have a similar style to?

Just some ideas (and perhaps contraversial) but...

How about making the hero Jesus on the cross, you could modernise the scene by perhaps making Jesus wear a Gas Mask, combat gear etc.
Instead of having the Cross on the hill at golgotham you could put it on top of a pile of bullet cases/shells. (or even put the cross in a firery crater caused by a mortar attack)
thus these images would combine both your band name and album title

Hmm? the artwork strikes me of "my chemical romance" than jesus stuff.

Yeah, it was kind of inspired by The Black Parade.  However, the album's not a huge rock opera about death. It's just a debut album.

Aliance:

Do you have any recordings of the band? Any ideas, any songs?

I would love to listen to them :)

A general habit of mine (bad habit) was that I was so preoccupied with all the around stuff and I never got time to make music myself, in the end.

If you don't have a band yet (
QuoteRight I'm starting a band called...
), then you shold probably get half the songs done and then worry about the album cover... Not that it's bad, but maybe it's distracting from the "real job" which is the music itself...

:)

All the best of luck from me too

It's a bit dull, the front cover, being such a light level of grey. It does give somewhat the impression that it's ben printed out from a printer with not enough ink. I'm not saying keeping it black and white would make it bad, for example this cover is a great example of a good black and white stuff:

But it's a tad darker, at least in the way, that the level is prety much the same in each part of the pic. See, in yours you can well enough see, that the mask doesn't wuite belong on such a plain bg. So perhaps the bg should be darker. This is my opinion.

Took a stab at that idea, it intrigued me.

Those are good but, maybe too "photoshop-ish"?

ManicMatt

I'm curious as to what it looks like without the gas-mask man on cross image! Where are you getting these images from anyway?

Why is the bullets for beloved logo not centred?

EDIT: As in centred with the moon and guns, not on the disc cover.

I bet you like "Bullet for my valentine" as well!  :P

and "funeral for a friend"

You sure you aint an emo band? (Kidding kidding! Unless you are, I mean, if you aint then the name sends the wrong image across actually)

Yeah wheres da music?

Erm, actually, let me answer these one at a time...

QuoteI'm curious as to what it looks like without the gas-mask man on cross image!
It looks rather dull, I'll tell you that.

QuoteWhere are you getting these images from anyway?
I search on Google for real pictures of soldiers, then I photshop them into the poses I want.

QuoteWhy is the bullets for beloved logo not centred?
Er, that was a mistake.

QuoteI bet you like "Bullet for my valentine" as well!  :P
Ironically, I haven't listened to one of their songs. However, the name is ironically close, so now the band needs to think up a better name.

Quoteand "funeral for a friend"
I don't know how that's relevant, but yeah, they're pretty good.

QuoteYou sure you aint an emo band? (Kidding kidding! Unless you are, I mean, if you aint then the name sends the wrong image across actually)
Shhh...it's happy emo...otherwise categorized as punk.

QuoteYeah wheres da music?
Unwritten.

You seemed kind of mad in that last post, but then again, internet makes one thing come out completely the wrong way.

You know, I always hated the tongue sticking out emote icon on here. Why can't it be smiling? I always use that on msn to say I'm just teasing! But here it's like "F*ck you!" and thats not my tone at all!

So no I'm not mad at all. Unless you mean in the insane kind of way, then by all means.

I guess I was sarcastic actually, with the emo band listings and stuff. Sorry. (hence why FFAF came up)

Reminds me of this person who is OBSESSED with The Birthday Massacre. So when she started up a band she called it "Murder at the masquerade". Boy did I laugh.

I'm not implying anything! As you say, you don't listen to bullet for my valentine. How about My bloody valentine? Or My bloody bullet for my chemical valentine's funeral? They're good. (I am taking the mickey out of all these similiarlery themed bands now)

Cool to see you on myspace! Arguably pre-mature, perhaps. Especially if you're changing your band name, you might have to make a new profile?

Erm... First of all, don't just use random photos you find places for your cover, as these can be copyrighted, etc.

Second of all, that last cover you made, the composition is really screwed up. The titles seem symmetrical, and it seems like the cover are trying to be so, but suddenly there is this crooked cross all over the place, being asymmetrical. When this is done, the whole image won't be either asy or sym, but messy. Just plain annoying to watch.

And i would suggest redoing the logo, as it really dont match the entire colour scheme in any way. You should have a "palette" of colours you stick to, in the whole image. The faded colours of the images really crash with the new, shiny logo and sharp colours.

Basically, it's really hard to find a decent place to settle your eyes in any of them.

My Bloody Valentine rule.
They're not emo though, new emo/pop-punk is awful.
Real punk rules.
As does grunge, shoegazer, original emo (husker du, the pixies(?)), lo-fi, etc.

thats my opinion o course  ;)
i used to be indeceisive but now im not so sure!

ManicMatt

Hello past-their-sell-by-date-thread bringer upper!

I wasn't saying they were emo. Not at all. It was the fact they all have a similiar theme to their names. I'd accuse most of them of ripping each other off, but not MBV as they've been around for many years.
