Soooooo I made this sketch for a game I will soon start working on...

That's awesome!  Of course, it's a little too small to see detail, so I can't really tell what the buttons are . . . it reminds me of Commander Keen's wristwatch interface.

It's a very good idea, I don't think it's been done before.

But I think that if it were a GUI it would only have room for 1 inventory item at a time, am I right?

Really cool idea!
Must say i liked the sketch version even better- all those tiny lines made the pic even more interesting.

Been done... but not in an adventure game.  I'm thinking of the really old Commander Keen series.  I think the "Aliens ate my babysitter" series used a wristwatch GUI.  They puroosely only showed about an inch of wrist on each side, instead of the whole hand, so as to show more information.  They even included "pong!"  Great style, although the hand needs some shading.

I really like this! It needs a little more shading but it's off to a GREAT start!

I like the general idea behind it.  I think it would be a cool way to also do communications with people where their face would be on the little screen.

Yep, I feel the same way...
The skecth is great, but I think the colored version lost some of the 3D feeling, the perspective...

try using the cmi style tutorial for this idea.  if not, then just go with the sketch  :P

What if..

you have the hand you have here popup, and the next screen is a close up of only the watch. That way you'll give the impressin of someone bringing his hand up to look at the watch, and have a bigger screen for the interface/inventory.
