I have been making a new scene for my game, No Magic Required. This is how it looked before blur:
When i went to blur the image, these little yellow dots appeared, flickering constantly across the BG. The more i blurred the BG, the more these dots appeared. I tried the image fresh, but still they came!
Can others see them, or is it just my monitor? If you can, does anyone know what they are, and/or how to get rid of them? It may seem trivial, but they are extremely annoying!

Thanks in advance!
:)
You've managed to accidentally create an optical illusion, I'm afraid.
Might want to change the colours, or something.
However, why blur it? Looks worse when you blur it, if you ask me.
You mean the yellow dots in the crossings of the black lines? They are optic illusions.
Or do you mean the green dots in the field that have no effect and thus you should have removed then.
Al_Ninio - The blurred, dreamy feel fits the style of my game. Thank you for the advice, have you any idea to remove them?
Thanks
Jetxl - Did you really feel the need to post that? I ask this as i believe you to know full well that i meant the yellow falshing dots, due to the fact that i mentioned "Yellow, flickering dots" in my original post! So don't post if you have nothing constructive to add.
Thank you.
If you can't handle critisism, you shouldn't have posted in the critic lounge.
You can get rid of the "yellow dots" by making the black lines dark gray. And remove those stupid green dots that have no use while you're at it.

If you can't give proper constructive criticism without resorting to phrases such as 'stupid green dots', you shouldn't have posted in the critics lounge.
Thank you Al Ninio, i see you understand the point i was getting at, Jetxl, it was the way you gave the criticism, making it obvious that you never intended it to aid my BG. Though i thank you for the advice involving the yellow dots, as i have now cured the problem!
:)
And still, the blur sucks.
Dreaminess could be achieved with much better-looking ways, such as better color usage (tones of pink or cyan, etc), removing XL-sized black outlines, using other tools than line tool, to make curvy shapes.
My oppinion is free. And you are free to ignore it. Do what you think is right, I or InCreator are not going to cross you.
Another thing. Not related to ANY dots. Dream seqences usualy have only blurry sides. This is good, because walk-behind areas in ags are hard to define with blurry lines.
I don't see yellow dots...?
Suggestion: No blurring looks better than with blurring. Instead of blurring it, try drawing your scenes in double the size, then scale it down to half the size.

What are you smoking dude? I don't see any yellow dots in the black crossings. Why would intersecting black ountlines cause an optical illusion? I think you are thinking of this one:
or maybe this, with inverted colours. Just like monkey's picture.

This is an interesting yet superfluous discussion, seeing as the blurriness only makes the background worse. I actally don't understand how you can think it improves the image, when it justs makes you dizzy and creates optical illusions!
JetXL was being polite in his first post, so neither MoneyTalks or Al should make too big deal about it. If you want to make your image better, you'll have to face c&c.
Being overly sensitive and defensive towards c&c won't make you a good background artist.
For the record, I don't see any dots either, so it prolly has to do with monitors and hertz and stuff.

Somehow I doubt that "remove those stupid green dots" counts as
constructive criticism...
And while being overly sensitive and defensive towards criticism won't make you a good artist, being overly offensive with your criticism and providing no further information other than "remove this or that because it's stupid" won't help anyone become a better artist, either.

Uhm? That has no effect at all.
I said: remove those stupid green dots that have no use while you're at it, Al_Ninio.
For some reason you keep forgetting that last bit. Very annoying.

To sum up.

Quite polite, and a good advice at that.

This is rather defensive as a response in the critics lounge. Jet isn't trying to mean or destructive, he's actually helping him.
Please just leave the moderating to the moderators next time.

I see flashing white dots there. where the black ones "are" in the one you posted. Although it can vary from person to person, from what I've seen. So yeah, I believe the problam at hand here is an accidental optical illusion.

Yes, could be. Now that I look closer, I do see white dots in the inverted image, but the effect is not as noticeable as in the non-inverted image. However - what creates the illusion are the
dots in the intersections, which are not in Monkeytalk's image. Thus, there is no possibility of an optical illusion on the castle wall. 8)
I think that Moneytalk is referring to the white dots on the field that someone advised him to remove. ;)
I see this optical illusion on the blurry pic. Flashing faint yellow lights. Then again I see all sorts of patterns and different shades of stuff after watching this.
This is completely unrelated and stuff. also don't watch it if you're epileptic. I'm serious. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v86/Haddas/epilepsy.swf I warned you! I start seeing green cubes...
Interesting that this has been marked as 'Solved', yet we continue to discuss it...
Quote from: OzHowever - what creates the illusion are the dots in the intersections
I thought it was the intersections themselves that caused the illusion - although the dots do make it more pronounced. In fact, I think this is the first time I've seen this illusion with actual dots at the intersection, usually it's more like this:
(Which works for me - I can see grey dots in the intersections on both sides.)
This may also be the first time I've seen it with white lines and black boxes, and not the other way round.
Now, about the stupid green dots. If they're meant to be highlights on the grass, make them more like the darker squiggles, or just get rid of them. If they're meant to be flowers, they're probably too small, but making them any larger would just be silly (as in, I think they'd look even more out of place), and you should maybe consider losing them entirely.
Unliek most people, I quite like the blurring. If the characters and objects don't stand out to much (although from the GiP thread it looks like they might), and if you(that is, Moneytalks) are happy with it, keep it. If you
do get rid of it, I think you should rework the BGs, perhaps along the lines InCreator mentioned (colour use, not so straight lines).
