Title: could anyone help me animate this character please
Post by: misterx on Sat 12/07/2003 10:58:06
Hi again, sorry if I sound like a broken record.....But I cant draw :)

spent the last 2 days trying to make side views and make him walk,   I just cant manage it, I need a lot more time to learn how to draw...

But to the point...

I am also trying to learn how to use AGS at the same time, but dont have a finished Character.

Would anyone beable to help me finish this character please, and at the same time show me how to draw side views and how to animate.

Thanks for reading this, and if you can help would be forever grateful!

character is below..

main front view <waiting>

back view

front view with hand out of pocket
(http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/front1.gif)

would either like walking with hands in pocket or out :)

thanks again for spending the time to read this, now back to trying to draw my first Background ;D

to be honest at first glance the only thing i can see that may need correcting is the side view, his back foot looks a bit more forward than his legs.

Im sure youve seen kafka'a tut, I have a similar one too here are the links, also check the stickys for more tut's

I did this in like 20 minutes, so please forgive the crudity.  I shrank it down a bit and re-outlined it.

By the way, stop saying you can't draw.  If you made that side view on your own, having never drawn before, I'd say you're off to a great start!  I would move the chin protusion more to the front (it looks like a tumor or something on his throat!) and, like Necro pointed out, his back leg should be moved back some (even if it hides behind the front leg).

Wow thats great DM !!, fancy doing side and back walking aswell ;D

well I cheated with the side view, the head is the front view, just changed abit, I did the same with the rear view.

just ordered myself Photoshop 6 in easy steps book :)
<so hope to learn about layers and such>

thanks for the boost guys, more luck than skill at moment, but rome wasnt built in a day  ;)

misterX - If I have some more time later I'll see what I can do about the other animations!  (just make sure you give me props in the credits :))

The side view ... don't worry about re-using other angles to create with.  I do that all the time.  It's a good technique to use because it's saves you time in the long run, keeps things in proportion, helps with movement, etc.

The PhotoShop layers ... I remember using Photoshop back before it even had layers and then when PhotoShop 3 came out and introduced layers I was soooo opposed to them.  Now, I don't know how I ever got on without them.  They're totally indespensible!  Once you learn them and how they work I'd like to be the first to welcome you to a whole new world :)

Rome wasn't built in a day ... keep it up!  Keep learning ...
"You've taken your first steps into a larger world ..." Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Thanks DM, if you do get the time it would be a god send.

And of course you would get full credit for any work done helping me with this toon :)

I don't know if I'm pleased with this or not ... but I had some free-time.

With your design:

Hope you like it!

I changed it a bit (hope you don't mind)

wow very nice once again DM.

I am taking the Gif's apart layer by layer and using the way you animated him as a guide. <going to try and animate an easier object and build up from there>

Its been a great help, and i am learning a lot.

i love the change on the side view, its more like i had in mind, but didnt quite pull it off :)

thanks so much, now i have a basic toon, i can play around with the AGS software and see how i get on with that.

now if only you lived in the UK, I could have got you a beer DM :P

The second one Darth did looks very cool - has his own personality.
