Size is intended to be only 144px high.

Can't figure out what's wrong, but It needs more detail, would appreciate drawovers.

First of all, it looks very good!
But as you said it needs more detail... I did a quick drawover to show you, what could be added:

I added general noise to the stony ground. Also some shadows of the stalactites (or stalagmites? :P), because they are directly in front of the lava-stream. In a cave like that, shadows would be extreme. Also added more stalagmites ... well you know, the ones which come from the ceiling. And some of the other kind in the background to add more depth. I also altered the lava-stream a bit, to make a bigger contrast between red and white. You have to add more reddish tones imho, for the stone that cooling down. Also added some little stones with shadows on the entrance, it looked very clean before. I hope this helps you :). As I said, I've done it very quick.

Hi.

First of all, this background is bloody awesome. Can I collaborate in your game ;)? Hehe.

The level before the cave entrance could be a bit higher. say, raise the arch a few pixels. It might be a trick of the eye, but it seems a bit like it would be hanging downhill atm. You know, seeing as how high it is next to the stairs and in front of the lava flow: it seems a bit lover right under the entrance. Hope this makes sense.

Another thing is the lava flow. keep it as you had it, It think it's better that way. Though you might add a bit of bubbles here and there, and there are sometimes some dried/colder pieces of solid rock floating on the current. Anyway, at least lava is darker red unless it's bloody hot. You might want to play with shades of orange and red, keep the light orange in the upper part, but have it grow a bit colder while it falls perhaps. at the moment, it's seems hot enough to go straight through solid rock and down into the earth :)

This is a very interesting background.  I'm completely loving the glowing/reflective edges around the walkways.

I like kaioshin's lava better.  Just make those crazy white, inconsistent current, lines a lot lighter than his and perhaps multiple colors of red/orange etc.. just don't over do it.  Perhaps not on the falling stream so much, but I really like what he did to the lava look at the bottom.

Those roses look a little bright to me.  Also makes me wonder how they survive down there with all that heat.

Any lava touching the walls would be cooler than the lava in the center.  So the lava in the center would be the flow path and the sides would be crustier and perhaps red or dark red (with perhaps a crust layer).

They're not roses... They're grapes.
And very special grapes, they supposed to grow here.
