So, while trying to make a balance between "military stencil" (like the kind they have for "M*A*S*H" for example) and legible, this is the result I've ended up with. To me though, it seems that in a way it just looks like a normal font that's broken in places. Any sage pointers towads making it look more like it's supposed to, or better yet someone more expert on fonts than me?

Do they have lowercase letters in real (military) usage? You might want to avoid them all together, cause the point of those is it to make them readable and unified and clear, therefore the use of stencils. It's not actually used to write more than names, labels and such, just put a stencil and paint/spray through it.

Also some have serifs, though you'd have trouble doing that on such small letters. But you can make the letters with thicker, that'll make the interruptions (which will be a bit thinner) more apparent and besides they are usually a bit stretched cause they have to be visible from a distance and visible even after dirt and damage comes to crates, plates, fabric etc.
You might try to do as many interruptions to be ie. vertical - for example instead of making an N or M like you did, try doing it like |\| and |v| so the line fits with you D C, L K, R.

There's a pretty good reference on google:

You've probably seen it anyway, just in case you didn't.

I made a MGS styled one a while ago... maybe you can get something from it

This is one of the ones I was kind of trying to take inspiration from (hence the non-vertical interrupts), though that may not be the best way to go. I'm sure they don't actually use lowercase on this kind of stencil, but if the lowercase really doesn't work with this, I may either scrap it entirely, or try to find a different marital-looking font to use that doesn't preclude correct style of writing. After all, I have no intention to seem ALL SHOUTY ALL THE TIME.
