Yeah, I like the second pic. Nice sky you got there. Very nice, I can see the style you're after immediately.

About the first picture: The tree trunks are way too wide/big, and the thops are to small. What you need is more leaves, more datails in them, and more shadows. there's some basic advice for you.

I suggest you to save imnages in .PNG format.

About the pictures.
What Tuomas already said. The sky is nice.
ON the first pic the trees that are in the edges of the picture could use a little darker color.

changed;
1) bricks on caslte
2) sky at top of pic

(http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/forest.png)

changed;
1) better shading on trees
2) also added 'leaves'
3) made 1 of the tree tops bigger

Any better? ???

(Also changes them to .png files Thanks.... :))

The trunks on those trees are a lot better, imho. Tops could still be a lttle larger in general, especially on the trees toward the bottom. And maybe fill in the bit of sky peeking through on the left or move it up a bit.

Good pics, though. I like the castle pic. Brings back memories of 8- and 16- bit goodness. :)

Hey Dave, not much of a graphics guy as you know but nyeh.

(http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/Wood.PNG)

I've added grass effects, bird holes in the trees, birdies in the sky, a sign which is supposed to say castle and a sun.

I've also made a night version, seein as the game is called dark wood afterall.

Wow, when viewed in fullscreen, this background has great mood!

How about a path and some dark hills on the horizon?

Looks much better, especially the floor. Still looks a bit dark around the edges, but thats ok seeing as the the night is going to be riding through the centre, he is where the attention is focused.
