Lose the outline around the shoes and you're set. :)

I like it alot! The look really reminds me of Sam.
There are only 2 things that really hit me,
1 As evil said the light outline on the shoes (and dark on everything else) just stands out a little too much.
2 a little more detail in the shading might help him look more 3d ish

o, cpage, like sam, he is ment to look toon'y, not 3d. think of say, o, sam and max.day of the tenticle stuff like that. that what i'm try to do the shading like
(that shading style, not that ment to be an immitation)

oops, ment to put a dot between the "3d" and the "sam". will fix
what i ment was its supsoed to look tooney not uber shaded, uses less colours and is a style i like.

Instead of making the lightsource left from him, try to shade your character like the light source was above him. That should work well with most backgrounds.

It's a little disingenuous not to mention the source of your sprite...
That said, I think you should change the hands - they are clearly not human.
His head also seems a bit too retracted into his collar. Perhaps up a pixel and forward a pixel?

SteveMcCrea, ya i should, say say that, ok here goes. SAM AND MAX were a KEY INSPERATION! so was roger rabbit, dick tracey, noir in general, cartoons in general, and also that soda founten painting.

Steve is talking about you using the Sam sprite as a "reference," a step farther than inspiration.
