Title: Critic on character.
Post by: AutoPilot on Sun 26/10/2008 21:53:53
Here is a character really quick. Only BECAUSE, I need help finding my style. I don't like the way this guy looks, but I might as well try!

To be honest, it looks totally unfinished. Who is this guy? What is he supposed to look like.

Oh and get rid of the double pixels on the outlines would be a START (double pixels are where there are 2 pixels next to each other. On the arms mainly.

I'd suggest you to take more time, and look at other videogame sprites. It's how we all learned.

You obviously don't understand what I mean. I know you resized the image. I'm not f**king stupid. I meant the fact you have 2 pixels next to each other on the original sized image. faux pas for pixel art.

This sprite is definately a bit weird.
First, the character looks like he doesn't have a neck. There's no nose and no mouth either. What should be hair looks more like a cap to me.
The shoulders shouldn't hang down like that, they should be more straight up!?

The feets look more like the legs are melting and leaving a puddle behind. The legs themselves look like they were glued together.

I can't be more constructive at the moment since I should go to sleep now, but I hope it points out some of the things that are definately not right.

Some tutorials might help. The stickied Tutorials Redux thread has a huge list compiled.

How about taking more time, trying to make it look like a human being first, then finding your style?
Google image search is your friend, look at pics of fat men, I'm sure there's plenty on the web. Resize the photo and paint over it or even better, just use it as a reference and still get the proportions and anatomy right.
Then go from there.
