Hi Everybody

Trying to get started on a game and just trying out how to Sprite. Never done it before so big challenge.

All Critic and paintovers are welcome. Feel free to change colour of the suit to emphasize something

Used 8 Colours

I'm fairly pleased with the result since this is my first try, but the hair is teasing me and Outlineing and shading I can't quite get it to look right

Okay, my goal here is to give you some very basic tips on top-down shading, when you assume a constant overhead light source for your characters, though I have tossed in some anatomy corrections as well as advice for more (when you're ready).

1.  Reduced the size of his head somewhat, placing the eyes toward the middle of the head and one eye apart, both good rules to follow.
2.  Increased arm length so hand rests roughly at mid-thigh, another anatomical rule.
3.  Approached shading from a top-down fashion, placing the highlights on the parts of his body most likely to be hit based on his stance, including his shoulders, forearms (showing that his arms are bent slightly forward), and top of the legs to the knee to give his legs a slightly bent outward appearance.

Anatomy is more important now when you are starting out than later on when you grasp the rules and know how to bend them and still achieve pleasant results, so I highly recommend you look at a few comic book or human art tutorials online.  Other improvements that could be made to this sprite include widening the shoulders so they are exactly one human head in width on either side of the head, further shading to bring out parts of the torso and widening his neck as well as general pose improvements to make him look a little less boring.

You're off to a good start!  My advice is meant to keep you going in the right direction, so best of luck.

So I tried again :)

Read a little bit, but making him 7½ head high he looked... well wierd.

Tried a different outfit and redid the face so I did it my self instead of just copying yours. (That way I learn nothing)

Much better :) any critic?

Redid the shading, edited shoulders, face and shoes. Lenghtened his arms and shortened his legs.
Small edits to the belt.

Tried again.

Lengthend the arms as Jim did and as ProgZmax also said in his first post. (Note to self: Read AND understand  :))

Redid the shoes and some of the shading on the pants

Kinda like his wide shoulders.

I'm getting more and more pleased with this
