Title: Critic this yearbook cover, please [edit again]
Post by: lo_res_man on Wed 10/05/2006 17:39:27
Hello, I am doing a cover for my school yearbook, with the characters lounging around the letters acronym of the schools name.( we refer to our school as Cvolc)
So, what do you think? Crit. these dudes!

[edit] well this is my "finished" cover. the dudes are in place, and all is swell, or is it? Tell me what you think, and sorry if the first part was too arrogant.

PS I shrunk it so it takes up less of the screen, if you copy and paste theÃ,  pics link, it should be full size
[edit2] in light of recent critisisim I have edited the image

Does that say "coc lov" in a weird X-like pattern?

Looks cute. But the guy on the O looks like he's falling. Maybe you could place him inside the letter...

then the hanging guy doesn't actually look like he's handing on anything, I'd suggest you make it more obvious. Make the V look like a handle etc, I dunno.

Check that guys' arm lenght. #2 and #3 have really long arms. And #5's shoulder needs some work.

You coloured everything with gradients? Drop the gradients and try either flat colours or simple shading instead.

Unfortunalty I have to say that "coc lov" was the first thing i saw. I really urge you t change the way it lays out, but if it's a year book I assume only CVOLC people would be looking at it and would know what it is.

I immediately read CVOLC, so on't worry about that...

tHe characters look really cute, but could maybe use a little better anatomy, without this meaning that you really have to change something.. I'm just saying... And I like the gradient...

Note: I'm not the best to graphics art, so it's better to listen to the others. I'm just stating that there are people that enjoy your final (up to now) outcome. :)

The figures are cute, and I like the idea of them interacting with the letters ^_^.
However, the cover seems a bit empty and plain: it is all pretty much the same colour, and the figures are kind of small.  I would suggest experimenting with adding more colours, more characters, increasing the size of the characters relative to the letters, increasing the letter size, maybe adding a background, etc.  Try some of these out, and see what looks best.  Overall, just make it a bit more daring, and show you're "proud to be different" ^_^.

Another thing, is this an all-boy's school?  If not, maybe add some females for some variety.
