I've added a tute I recently made for designing backgrounds "the sustainable way" (320x200 DOTT-style).

Here's the link.

Designing backgrounds the sustainable way (5 easy steps)

If the link doesn't work, or geocities tells you the page does not exist, just paste the link on your address bar.

I did post this in the tutorial thread as well, but I wasn't too sure people would look actually at it there.

Note that Geocities allows very limited bandwidth. Even though the site is pretty small you might get a message saying I've exceeded the limit and you can't access it. It should be back up within an hour from the moment you get that message, don't worry.

- Oh great, I'm stuck in colonial times, tentacles are taking over the world, and now the toilets backing up.

I just think that's the way to go if people want to finish their games...  ;D

Thats a very nice tutorial. If I ever get time to make a game, that would be the technique I would use. Thanks.

Nice tutorial.Ã,  I definitely fall into the camp of the background overachiever and go for broke on every image spending upwards of 8 hours on a background.Ã,  For my next project I'm definitely going to aim a little lower and try something more "sustainable".Ã,

The background is nice, although the cut-out foreground is a bit...too much...if you want that kind of black foreground, make it silhouettes of furniture or other items, like vases or whatnot. That would make more sense.

Ye, you're right, the top particularly is a bit overdone. Still, I think it's pretty reasonable quality for not too much work.

i like that black cut out foreground. It gives a cartoony feeling, and that fits with the style. Very nice done.

Very nice tutorial. This should definately go to the 'tutorial' section of the main page. Very useful, but I still like to use some time with my backgrounds (it could also be that I'm so bad at it..).

Alright, that's the coolest thing I've ever seen:P :P Well, maybe I'm getting a bit carried away, but it's a really good tutorial ;)
Easy as hell. Though, I can't use the tutorial for my game because my game has a tottaly different style. But it's awsome anyway.
