Ship interior Concepts

Hi. I'm posting here some concept sketches of a spaceship.
I'm doing this for the 3d short from my animation course.

These are just rough sketches of the scenes I'm going to model.
I would like to get some feedback on these backgrounds before I start the animatic.

1. is that companion cube in storage room? 
2. in the control room there's that fence that doesn't really seem to do anything, doesn't really fit in I think

I think you're misunderstanding the scene. The fence is actually a railing for a higher level ground - The steps aren't drawn but there's a staircase leading down.

EDIT: looks quite wrong though, I might do a paintover later. The problem is that the railing on the left side of the stairs seem to both lead downwards and follow the edge of the upper ground..

Yes it's a companion cube, I will put some references and easter eggs.

I see. I'm going to change the design of the railing too. maybe something more star trekish to fit more
