some concept art for elaine marley when at a dance ball with her husband guybrush threepwood
she is wearing one of those burlesque dresses where you can see one of the legs
needs criticism
http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/elaine1.jpg
not finished
have not colored eyelashes yet
let me know what you think ;D
for part 4 or 5? of my game the treasure thieves
edit by eric, made the image a link for it was pretty big, I'd recommend scaling it down before posting another image directly from your sketchbook, eric
Looks good although her eye brows look kinda different, the perspective of the boobs is odd too, also y is she so large? I'm sure you have your reasons... Other than that it looks good.
when i scan from my notebook
the resolution of the pic is large
Looks pretty good, but Elaine's breasts aren't THAT large.
Dont listen to him! Her breasts are that large! In fact, they are bigger!
*sedriss drools
Elaine looks really angry. And cross-eyed. And...ewww...wrinkly. Her eyelids being so dark also has a negative effect. She also seems to have double eyebrows.
EDIT:
And the leg seemed wrong for some reason. Can't really pinpoint it. Perhaps that it looks so much like a drumstick?
Some modifications:
What needs most attention is the face and shoulders/neck imo.
Make sure that you don t make the eyes too large; there should be an eye s width between the eyes to fit the standard ideal. Also, make sure that the hairline isn t too low.
well
i have made some modifications of my own and have come up with this
http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/elaine3.jpg
-changed the boob's perspective
-gave her a smile
-eliminated the second eyebrows
-made her leg just a tad smaller
-forgot to color the diamond ring
nowÃ, about the eyes
take a look at this pic of elaine (http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/elaine.gif)and then look at my pic
the eyes are the same size ;D
let me know what you think
again, resize it before posting the direct image, thank you. eric
Why don't you resize a little.Ã, That's rather large don't you think?
I think she looks pretty good, if a little like Jessica Rabbit (though that certainly isn't an insult!).
The left eye (her right) is too close to the hair (or the hair is too close to the eye) they bump up to eachother.Ã, There needs to be some distance between the two.
Her neck looks a little on the thin side (though that doesn't really bother me)
There appears to be a third strap on the dress.Ã, It goes right up next to her neck.Ã, I would remove that part and just leave the two (lower) shoulder straps (unless that's intentionally that way!)
It looks grate, but I think that with loominous 's modifications (and resizing it) it will be near perfect.
There are numberous outline inconsistancies that bug me a bit. Also, the outlines look a little shaky. Some coloring is out of the line it is supposed to be, etc.
Nice work.

But Elaine's eyes ARE really that large in the real Monkey Island games. He was just copying.
yep i was copying the eyes
this is supposed to be ten years after COMI
Guybrush and Elaine are in their late twentys/ early thirties
;D
loominous's modification are really good
but there she looks too young
she looks eighteen there
I hawe some more tips. Aim for the look that loominous went for with the eyes. The Image looks to mangaish if you combine the big eyes with your stile. Erase the left side (from your pespective) of the nose and the left side (from your perspective) of her left boob (but not too much). But you should resize the picture before you start redrawing it. Becouse when you'l resize the picture it'll get abit fuzzy...
EDIT: I also noticed that her ear is a bit to high. Try to line it up with the lower half of her eyes.
Nice image! But how come everything has black outlines, except the eyes? If you're going for outlingin, do it all the way. Now the eyes look fuzzy to me...
Whether you copied the eyes or not, whether they are actually that big or not....the eyes in your picture simply look wrong and ugly.
Loominous has made a great version which I think you should take a closer look at and appreciate.
Also: please resize your pictures before publishing them here! A picture doesn't need thousands times thousands of pixels if it isn't a super-sharp photograph, or a 3D rendered background or something.
I think the problem is that you are making a semi-realistic character directly from a cartoony character. And anyways,
[Original Monkey Island Purist] Elaine Does not really have big eyes!

Honestly I think loom's drawing could use some more understatements.

Since this makes no sense what so ever, I m assuming that you re still holding a grudge against me for criticising your movie.
If you feel the need to vent your anger further, then message me if you must, and spare the lounge your frustration.
Kingsized and Loominous, if you're gonna continue to deliver these subtle insults, either add a portion of sense to them, or take it outside.

now about the eyes
take a look at this pic of elaine
the eyes are the same size ;D
But they're also noticeably farther apart than you've drawn them. The big eyes might work for you if they weren't so close together.
Of course, for that you'd need to widen her head a little... you've drawn her head quite narrow relative to the picture of her from the LucasArts game.
[EDIT: Actually, on second thought, the eyes aren't the things that bother me. They could stand to be a little farther apart, yes, but I think what looks really out of place is the nose--it doesn't seem to match the rest of the face, somehow. Actually, I think the biggest problem is just that line on the left of the nose, which makes her nose look sort of blocky and crooked. Take that out, or at least soften it, and that will (IMO) represent a considerable improvement:
Also, the eyes could use some outlines; having thick black outlines around everything else and no outlines on the eyes looks odd.
Of course, all this is just my opinion, and others may disagree.]
relax andy. relax loominous. I don't need AGSers holding the misconception that I cannout take criticism.
My frustration was never about you criticisizing, loom, it was about you being very ambiguous on what you were criticisizing. There, now you know - and the community knows.
If I fan of pixel art may be so bold i would like to say that I think that all this talk about eyes and face and other issues don't cover a MAJOR point. NOT EVEN HOOOKERS IN PIRATE TIME WORE CLOTHS LIKE THAT! :o
think mor corset and and more like the cloths the women wore in "pirates of the caraibian" if elain is goin to were a dress. i know that monkey island is not "historicly" accurate but the dress ays NOTHING to me of the golden ( mostly fictionul) age of piracey or even just after it
salivate all you want, but the dress is just...wrong
Well, I may change the dress. Not sure. I was looking for a more burlesque type setting at the dance ball scene, but anyway. I have changed her eyes and nose and hair and mouth. Actually, I've changed her entire face.
http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/elaineinaballdress.png
let me know what you think :)
Now her eyes and eyebrows make her look sad :) . Of course, that may be what you want.
Aside from that, even though you linked your image, you could cut out the useless blank edges to make it smaller.
Another thing I noticed is that the collar bone showing and the sagging of her dress at the neck seem to show she is skinny, while her ....voluptuous breasts and well formed legs seem to contradict that.
Hmm. Thanks. Will change that. :)
Have changed the eyes. Made the waist a wee bit wider. Made the dress appear tighter.
http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/elaineburlesque.png
let me know what you think :)
Still not piratey :(, im not a prood, have her spilling out of her dress if you want, but it is not burlesque, its 1920's onward, and unless lechucks does time travil, ( an idea that has merits) the dress is still wrong
Her eyes still bother me. It's probably becouse they hawe no outline. And the ear is still placed to far back on the head. I'm working on a paintower. I'll post it later...
ok
http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/elaineburlesque.jpg
it's a real quick and rough paintower. But I think that you should get the idea. I still think that crazy's paintower should hawe explained it to you. I mowed the ear closer to the face. Made the eyes less round (a sharp elipse). And I removed the lower lip.
I also hawe a tip regarding her breasts. Her right breast (from her perspective) is to stretched. Erase the part that goes in to her arm and make it a bit more round like on this picture http://www.cablenet.ne.jp/~japanime/howto/tutorial/fbody1.gif
thanks :D
will do that
