Thanks alot.

I took a stab at a small area of it- it's hard to try and do a paint over with the red words written across most of the picture. Please note this is INCREDIBLY rough because I did it in about 5 minutes.

With all the lovely hatching you've done, shading isn't really an issue. What I did for this:

1. made the image monochrome, so that all the black lines were really black- no random gray pixels
2. switched it back to RGB
3. selected all the black (done in gimp by using shift+O and clicking on the colour you wanted to select)
4. copied it to a new layer
5. coloured on the background with a plain old pencil tool- the new layer over top keeps eveything fairly nice and crisp.
6. Added some highlights to the sand, because  there's a lot of empty space that needed to be broken up a bit more. I just used a lighter shade of the same hue I used for the sand.

Just my take on it.

Here's a qiuck color job I did...

1) You have already used a threshold on the inking, so it's really easy to just use color select (white) 150% then invert selection copy and paste just the black outlines as a new top layer without any outlines (threshold removes the outlines well).

2) starting from the most covered up areas, just select the area and fill it in with polygonal lasso, or draw it in by hand...doesn't really matter which you prefer. Ã, Just work your way up through the layers. Ã, So sea should be on the bottom, then sand, then ropes, then trunks, then leaves.

Then I just did a few little touchups to the brightness of areas and coloring in the rocks n shells...and tried some funky brush patterns on the water. Ã,

btw removing the watermark here is really as simple as adjust color saturation (reds) ->0%, lightness->100% and it's gone without a trace.

lol so watermaeks are not that good then.  ;D

So basicly I just add simple colour and shade it using the burn tool and the other one I cant remeber the name for.

A color watermark in an otherwise grayscale picture is no good. If the picture has any red in it it becomes much more difficult to remove cleanly.

It shouldn't be necessary to convert gray in the lines to pure monochrome. Just place it as a separate layer on top and set it to multiply. The lines will look smoother, not so jagged. If you need the outlines for selecting areas, you can make a monochrome copy of the layer for that purpose.

I'm just protective the work for this project. lol
Keep the advice and paint over styles coming!Ã,  8)

EDIT: BTW, the top bit of the picture is clouds, so I dunno why its brown. :P

I thought that was rope that was used for a top of the screen GUI.  Those are clouds???

Well yes, this game is in a certain style.  ;) Even the water is animated with hand drawn waves.

How often does a person look at the sun?
Not very often, it probably won't be necassary to put it in the image.

Also, if those ARE the clouds, you're missing a horizon. Good wrok so far, looks really nice.

If you add a sun in this picture, that would mean that it is so low that it would be setting, or rising, which would add a whole different approach to coloring the image, with more orange and shadows and such. We need to know more about the game and this scene if you want a correct assesment of how we would approach the coloring.

- No, I mean it's really STUCK. Like adventure-game stuck.

I will have sunsets. It will be tricky but it will be a plus for my game.
