Greetings, adventure creatin' compadres.

I have finally decided on a style for my game - something simple and old school that an art-challanged soul like me can handle.Ã,  I quite like the style, but I am having trouble getting my female characters to look decent while using that same style.

4x:

I'm not looking for help with the male characters, my main issue is getting the female character (the one on the far right :) ) to actually look feminine.Ã,  Any help appreciated!

Hmm... from the angle which you've chosen to draw them, that might be difficult.

Tuomas

What would Tuomas do? he would probably try drawing the woman a red mouth indicating her lips. Then he'd probably try making the shoulders a bit more feminine, like not as broad as the others have their's. I would do that too.

If you want to display a bigger version, use the width and height parameters of the image tag.

Like this:
Code: ags

The style is nice and simple, I like it.  You just have to keep in mind that it's fine to draw men with lots of straight lines, but ladies have curves.

A quick paintover to illustrate:

EDIT:
-Gave the poor girl a bust line
-Dropped the shoulder, and neckline
-Made the hair a little bigger
-Added some shape to the forward leg, for hips and calf
-Gave the blouse a little extra detail

Hope this helps.

:o :o Is the bust line the measure of a woman? What does the "poor" mean? I for one don't require a breastline from women to make tem women! Are you a sexist? Are you making them sexual objects? Only to serve our needs, eh? Answer! It does not make a girl poor if she doesn't have a "bust line", I have meat plenty beautiful girls without big boobs!!!  ;D

Anyway, I hope you realize I'm not serious about that. What Seleceus did made a big difference, more towards feminism. But the bust line doesn't look very much like it should, but that's something to give you a clue. I like your way of drawing the characters

I'd suggest removing the nose pixel. It is not really necessary. Some people have small noses.

Well..no, just one of many :-\

Quote.... Are you a sexist?
Nope, married and have two daughters.  And it's all I hear about, FROM THEM! :o

I agree!  ;D

Yes, I do :)

Yeah, I'm not a very good pixel artist, and I didn't spend any real time on it either, but I thought the illustration would mean more than me just sitting here and nit-picking someone elses work.

I have no idea how come noone noticed this! How 'bout putting the woman in a skirt, huh?

Well, here's my paintover. Hope it helps.

I'm not sure that I agree with this. anyway, I did a little paintover to show you something that people might suggest:

Though now they look like stupid robots to me

Saberteeth

I made her even more femminine:

I realise this is not what he had in mind, just a quick way to remind that there are other ways to make a woman look female.

lo_res_man

Ah, the female form, damn difficalt to make sexy in pixal art. not even the great masters at sierra never got it quite right in the games I! have played.even lucas arts had a hard time with it.

I disagree - Sophia was the ultimate in sexy!
Anyway, I continued Seleceus' paintover:

- reshaped head so it bulges at the back
- changed eye to suggestion of eye
- rounded chin and reduced nose
- raised breasts
- smoothed out arms
- lowered and smoothed out hand
- gave her a stomach

I kept the colour count and the pose, but I lost some of the simplicity of the style. I think that's pretty much the give and take here - add some femininity, and the character no longer "fits".

lo_res_man

Okay, Okay, I said they hard time with it, didn't say them boys NEVER succeeded. but you must admit its TOUGH.

Dr. Scary

So I felt like doing a paintover of Steve's paintover. The style has moved away quite a bit from the simplistic style, as Steve said, but I hope you can find some inspiration in it still. Steve actually reduced the colour count from 8 to 7. I brought it back up to 8 to be able to add some shading.
Pulled the left arm back a bit and tried to define the bust and stomach more.

DutchMarco

I won't redraw anything, but I would go with Dr Scary's bust line (instead of a bust "plane" all the way down) and use a skirt. But make it longer, SBsLoVeNiA's skirt looks like shorts. Make the skirt reach down to between her knees and calves.

I think that's the best way to make her look feminine without deviating too much from the style.

P.s. it's amazing what you can do with some talent and 2 shades per colour! Nice work guys.

Menorrah

I haven't been able to get online in two days... but wow, you've all been busy in the meantime.  I really like what you guys did here - especially the "rounded" head on Steve's paintover.    That dress is also cool, SBsLoVeNiA.  Not right for the character, but it will help with other characters later on.

Y'all rock.
