Hey

I just finished a midi file for the main room of my new game.  It's like the first one that I actually put some thought into.  I was wondering if I could get some CC for it.
Tell me how it is:

Everything was done on the computer (My MIDI keyboard dosent work   :'( ); using a guitar-emulator instead of a piano roll (Since I know guitar much more than piano);

Enjoy!

It's real nice. It would fit perfectly into a Blues/Jazz tavern atmosphere.

I just picture a smoky, run-down jazz bar, with the musician set off in the corner.

But, thats me.

Sounds Good!!

edit: i'd love to see the background this music is going with.

I can't show you the backround (because I'm not done yet);
but it is going to go in a
modern-style office, with wood furniture and chrome doors and stuff like that.
The whole music set has a jazz-like feel to it (The game is made for my dad's birthday and he loves jazz.);

Sounds okay, but there's a few things that bug me.

Alot of the "melody" notes just seem, out of place with the beat. Like, not on the ands, and different sub divisions, but just, weird.

I do like the drums and bass though, those are very neat. I would suggest, being a avid jazz musician, to write a head (Melody, main part of the song). One that could be repeated a few times by all, or a few of the instruments, and then have solos. Then eventually, at the end, play the head at the end.

Take this Jazz midi I composed for example:
http://www.ssonicnet.com/lobt/schoolwork.mid

It's not done, but it does have the head. It's a 12 bar blues, in Bb. The first 12 bars are just rythm section (Drums, piano, bass). Then the Saxophone kicks in to play the melody of the song. It's repeated again, with the addition of a baritone saxophone playing a counter melody bass line thing.

If I ever finished this song, the next part would be a solo, probably 3 or 4 12 bar sections together. Then the head would play again, and have an ending that finishes the song.

Your midi is a great start, and as excellent atmosphere, and would work well in the above mentioned locations. A little more polish, and it could really make the particular scene it's featured in stick out.
I make music.

That was totally cool, it would fit perfectly as background music!

I would so play a game with that kind of music in it!

Sure your dad will like it.

I actually like the awkward subdivision very much...

almost like a pentuplet, except starting on the rest, causing the 'off beat' sound. ( I know it's NOT, but it's that kind of principle). It gives a very laid-back, soloistic feel. I can see it working in the smoky bar (as someone's already said), although I can also see it working in the said setting, now that you've mentioned it.

Berserkertrail's "schoolwork" midi is more jazz-like than "bumbum2". It's all about the swing.

Things that swing jazz has:

- quarternote walking bass (with X-notes mixed in)
- hihat closing on beats 2 & 4
- offbeat (and usually upbeat) snare hits and rolls
- piano voicings (also on the upbeat just before the actual chord starts)

Also, remember to put in triplets, too, so it's not too plain. Hope that helps.
