Title: first background
Post by: kl4Uz on Wed 16/06/2004 14:34:04
hi there!

at the moment I'm working on my first game in ags. It's going to play in RON... I just started to do some conceptual art.
This is one of the very first backgrounds I did, so don't exspect too much. I'd be cool if you could give me some hints on how I could improve the whole thing. And I don't know what I shall do with this building on the right side.

JPEG version (145kb):

TIF version (925kb): dl (http://berg.heim.at/tibet/450805/room.tif)

thanks in advance!  :)

Well, for starters... it's not common to have benches in the middle of the road. ;)

Apart from that, I would have the shelves inside the window more over to the left as it looks as though they are in front of the door when you enter it. So push them over to the left, and have the right side of them end before or at the windows edge.

The graphics look prety good actualy.
Here are a few things that cought my eye.
- as it was mentioned move the bench and shelves.
- the only shading i see is a shade from the window.
- the sewer lid is a bit strange. Try changing the angel a bit.
- the right wall looks kinda empty. Try to put a poster or a window on it.

The size of door gives idea how big people will be. Now, I really don't believe the construction workers were able to fit between these two buildings when building them. Push the green building a bit further so alley looks more real - and wider.
And what's that chinese puzzle with the edge of sidewalk? It seems wrong and my english is not sufficent to explain how.

My biggest concern would be the mixture of darker outlines and black outlines.Ã,  I suggest ditchin' the black and going for something like this:

- I also added a little shading to some areas

Hope it helps!

Hey thanks for your replies and you hints!
I know that bench is pretty weird, but I was pretty pleased with the look of it so I decided I'll let it there...

I'll do a new version later this evening! Thanks a lot for your comments and paint overs! :)
