Title: first ever room drawing, c&c please (don't worry this is a jpeg)
Post by: Matt Brown on Fri 30/05/2003 01:36:56
okay, here is a possible first room in the game. there are a few things that I know need to be fixed, (keyboard, door, empty space) but I'm not really sure how. If somebody could please enlighten me, so my art skills can continue to progress from my last game

Ok, even though I'm no expert at this at all, I can give you a few general tips:

- Try to avoid black outlines, and instead use darker shades of the colours you have.
- If you are using paint (Like me... ;D ) it is an advise to avoid the spraycan tool all together. The result usually just looks silly. (Unless you are doing some grafitti on a wall or something like that.)
- The black shapes in foreground is supposed to sort of LEC-like shadows, right? Can't really tell how to make them better, but currently they just look like black holes in the screen.

I also took the liberty to alter your image slightly, just to show you what I mean. I hope you don't mind.

Keep on trying, man, and good luck!

Surely a digital clock would just go blank if it fell off a wall and broke?

kool! one thing you could do is add hinges and maybe a little woodgrain to the door, unless it opens outward its just that at the moment it looks pretty much like a block of brown colour.

Don't forget that most doors have a frame ;)

I love Rincewind's update! You could maybe add a calender, framed picture, a trash can, a potted plant etc. The perspective is off on the platform where the comp is but its not very noticeable in the updated pic.

maybe you could do the screen something like this.. so it kinda looks like it says someting on it rather than those wavelines..

Hehe, I wasn't aiming to make a perfect version of the picture, I just wanted to make some small changes so that it'd be easier to understand what to change... ;) Hehe...

Btw, Synth - That computer looks great!

Neole:
Thanks!

whoa rince, I love that! is it okay if I make a few edits to that, (like doorframe, a better black forground, etc) and use it? that looks so much better.

okay, been goofing off with the new image...and I'm wondering how exactly to draw a good forground like I was trying...I searched the tut's page, and couldnt find anything, nor could I find a good model to work from.
