Title: first picture for my new game
Post by: Mouth for war on Fri 04/04/2008 15:48:43
Hi! just made this and thought i'd share my "wonderful art" with you hehe ;) tell me what you think about it. I'm very aware of that the drawer is a little more cartoonish...but that's for making things look a little more...well...alive...or something hehe. It's a game about a guy who spends the night in jail for disturbing the peace while being drunk. When he comes home he sees that someone broke into his house and stole his valuable collection of metal-albums. Your mission is to get them back.

FULL BRIGHT COLORS!!!!  ARGH ME EYES!!!

I would definitely recommend toning down the magentas and the reds!

I like the overall "shape" of this room and it would function well as a game background.  However I have a few issues:

1) some objects use very straight lines and others use the curvey style of lines.  The two don't mix well in my opinion.

2) the doorway "Depth" is too deep.  Or maybe it's just that you can't see the same depth on the top of the door way (which you should be able to from the angle it's at)

3) as I already said, the full-bright colors got to go!

I think it's off to a good start (or I'd not have bothered commenting!) ...

Also ... I recognize that character from somewhere.

Yeah, the colors of everything else, like the walls and wood furniture, are great, but those reds are too bright. Even if they were, hypothetically, supposed to be that color, they could still use some toning down. Some shadows around the plant and the radiator and the desk/drawered table would be helpful. Also, the perspective looks alright, but there are some problems. The door/wall width is large, but there's no top to the doorway. It's a paper thin wall with deep sides to a doorway.

(desaturated so you could see my lines :p )

The windows and radiator are HUGE. I drew lines from the door to show what a doorway on the back wall would look like. Also the walls and some objects don't line up to a vanishing point. Mine's not that accurate, but it proves my point.

I made that character some time ago so you have probably seen it before.
