AMAZING!

The only thing that bothers me is that for some reason (and I don't know why), the two buildings in the back seem like more fake that the ones close to the camera. And proportionaly the wall in front of the camera seems a little out of place, again I don't know why.

But it's amazing. Wait for the better ones, at this thing to tell you a little more. I don't know if this is a BG for a game, but it seems a little difficult to use it, as most of the places are taken from buildings and stuff. Anyway... :)

EDIT: I have to congratulate Inc for his thorough criticism. He's right!
And the only thing to add is that this town is really really clean. The only town like this is probably Vienna... And I understand why you put the watermark on, but is it really necessary? I mean I'd love to use this picture as a wallpaper, please? pretty pretty please?

Quite amazing indeed!
But crits:

1) I don't like the water texture. It looks more like some green goo instead of water. You might try something else here.

2) The building textures lack some heavily needed detail. Not the building, but textures. Like some broken or dirty parts, harder contrast, so on.

3) Main problem about building textures is repeated/tiled material. You could use something tile-independent to make additions. Like that big blob on the wall at the very front (lower right). The tiled material on church looks worst, I think.

4) While everything looks very great and colossal, these trees far back look way to pathetic to fit in. In a city with so old buildings, the trees should also be old and big.

5) It's quite weird that buildings with less detail (now I'm talking about geometry detail) are in the foreground and very neatly detailed ones, far back. This kind of lowers the impression.

6) The windows reflect too much. Best window in the room is topmost ones tower at the house with tower-like thing far back (on the tower). I think most of the windows should look like that, darker. Play a bit with the light.

7) Some textures are too blurry (sidewalk near river and house roofs)

Otherwise, the render is too good to even criticise or have courage to crit something like this.

DCillusion

The only problem I see is that the light, (although very, very good), doesn't fit with the sky.  It looks as though it's in a movie studio.

By the way, how did you rig your lighting - it looks like Global Illumination.

Elliott Hird

Seriously, there is no way this is his first serious render. The watermark is probably from some place he stole it from ``

made a small edit. It's hard to modify a rendering with photoshop, but I think some general atmospheric improvemtents were appropriate to make it less model and more real.

* changed sky/ground light relation (the original sky was too dark compared to the ground, and the colours didn't quite match)
* added colour/contrast perspective, to estabish a more realistic depth
* improved contrasts, but lowered saturation
* some minor changes with shadows and colour tones

First,Thank you to you all for your critics.

Nikolas, if you give an email i'll send you an 800x600 screen(with a little signÃ,  :)).

Increator and Andail, you're right.
I've rendered in 3d max. There is no post processing in photoshop or other and sure that need it.
The sky is too dark, the trees...i can see it now but i think i'm going to make new scenes better than work in this one,i'll upload here my works for you to critizice them(is the best way to find mistakes ;)).

Dcillusion i used a direct target light and a cenital light .I was looking a game scene better than a realistic one.

eliott hird, really is my first attempt.I have done other renders but only stand alone objects, so i tried to make a hole scene finally.I used some models like the barrils or the far building you can find easily in internet, or 3d software.
And my parents teached me don't to stealÃ,  >:(

So, you think this style is good for a game or may i tryÃ,  more toony or more realistic?

Bernie

Hi there! Nice picture so far. The only problem I can see are the textures - I can see their pattern. If you get rid of the obvious tiling it would look much better.

Keep it up! :)

Ok, so if you're using 3DSMax, turn on volumetric fog from the 'environment' option in the 'rendering' tab. That will simulate the depth of the objects. You may also try regular fog, which is simplified and fogs strictly by distance.

And elliot, don't be so cynical. 3D isn't hard, if you understand the system. And buildings are the easiest, since they're just blocks. And as far as design goes, that's up to the talent.

For example, here's my first attempt at a city-like structure. I've done 3d before but this was my first full scene. It's a 30-second avi file. And I made most of it in just one day (rushing to finish it for my 3d class). I'm just pimping this to prove my point.

really nice first attempt.i'd like to see your last works.

Looking at it again, I noticed another, rather quite strange thing:

I have never seen a church stuck between houses!

Churches/cathedrals/whatever are always a bit separated, all sides opened, and in visible places. Maybe it's different around the world (don't have much visas in my passport) but I don't think so anyway.

So, if it's a church, there's a serious, though hardly noticeable problem with your composition.

That's very nice Txarly!

One thing: streams through cities usually get loads of crap thrown in them, so they're usually dark green and opaque (unless you're going for a fantasy-type look, in which case I think it's very nice).

Also, although there are plenty of nice little bits, I think it's still lacking some detail. Perhaps that cafeteria (is it a cafeteria?) should have some chairs and tables outside. Also, churches tend to have a noticeboard at the front.

BTW good to see some Spanish AGSers here!

I can't see the problem there. I've seen lots of churches in between buildings...

Hey Steve, that last one's in Sydney!
It's not the size of the dog in the fight. It's the size of the fight in the dog.

Very nice! When it comes to architecture, It's great and detailed. I don't like the texture of the church though, not just because it's gridy. The building on the back looks flat. Also, the one in front of it looks like it's made out of plastic for a weird reason.

txarly

As ildu suggested, i've been playing with fog and decided to make a night version of the day scene.
What do you think?

petazzo

Very nice, the second version is a lot more realistic but the water continue to seem fake. But I like your picture much! ;D
But I prefer the day version.
I never forget a face, but in your case I'll be glad to make an exception.

I like the water. A lot. I can see exactly what you were going for.

50% LESS fog, correction on windows far back, and night one's perfect!

Looking at the sky... It's not night. It's evening, about 10pm and It's winter, just about to snow. I so feel it.
