Hey all!

I like it! The character's physique is a little lopsided, but I think that's the style you were trying to go for. The sofa looks too small and I think it would look better if it was wider. And the door for the other room looks more like a wall. The colour should be darker for the door, I think. But it's good, especially for a first effort.

I like it very much :D. You've got a sort of central european short animation feel to it. The background is great, except for perhaps the door. Make it a bit darker and add some pseudo-shadowing :). Also, the painting (or more like the colors in it) doesn't really fit in. I would suggest lowering the saturation on it. If you wanna add something, I would say add a small table or a lamp or something to the right side of the image to close the composition depending of course on how your exit solutions are like.

Now, what's the most distracting and out-of-place in this scene is the character. The colouring is very highly saturated, which isn't really a big problem for this style. However, the pixelation is a problem. I would suggest redrawing the character in the same way as the background.

You've got a very nice minimalistic style going there. Looking good so far.

Is it just me or does the background seem to have a transparent dark brown layer over it :)

Thanks for the crit guys

haha yeah i did a multiply with a orange/brown layer over it all zabnat....didnt think it was that obvious, you probably spotted the noise overlay as well :P

thanks ildu, the painting does look a bit out of place and draw too much attention with the contrast of its saturated colour against the rest of the piece....same with the character too.

I'll end up re-doing the character later on tis a bit lopsided hunchback style.

I'll get busy working on adding maybe a table or old school record player against the wall and some stuff other objects

Stay tuned!  :D

You could consider moving the sofa to the wall.

I love it!
Looking at it, maybe the background could use a bit more contrast.. not too much though (it's part of the style anyway).

added a few highlights to bring the couch and table forward so that they don't look so flat.

put in a record player against the wall and added some lights....also fixed the corridor that will lead to the bedroom (i know it looked like a door but it wasnt  :P)

I think that was a step to the worse. When you added highlights, you automatically add distractions, and you lose the viewer's focus on the wonderful wall brushing and the floorboards, among other things. I would discourage adding anymore stuff as well. The record player is cool but it's a bit too bright and it's got unpleasant grains on the speakers.

All in all, I would suggest you keep the room dark and let specific light sources light it up. As in, don't for example light up the walls and other surroundings just generally, but have a specific light source lighting up one area really brightly while the rest is relatively dark. For example, you could have a strong orange light coming from a TV opposite the sofa, which would light up the sofa nicely. Also, I think you should try and keep the color scheme relatively muted.

This reminded me remotely of Les Triplettes de Belleville, so here are a few reference images:

Thanks ildu...looking at it now i totally agree with you that it lost what made it look good in the first place.

I wont be able to work on it again until the weekend so ill repost then and a short demo of the character in the room.

Thanks for the crits guys!
