Title: First sprite
Post by: TheRoger on Tue 20/09/2011 14:16:31
So I'm trying to make  low res game and for that I need some low resolution sprites. Here's my first try:

I kinda wanted that legs would be a bit longer than usual. Can you say what this sprite lacks and what I need to edit, before I begin animating it.

The contrast of the shades of similar colors is too low i.e. the two gray shades of the trousers are too similar.

Thats's better but the shading doesn't make much sense.
Where's the light coming from? Usually, the light source for a character should be above and slightly in front of them; this'll usually look the least off for all lighting conditions.

Now think of the 3D structure of a body and which parts would be hit by light and which ones won't.

Hey, I like the character.
So I hope you don't mind I did a small edit. My edit has 14 different colors what makes it easier to animate. Added more contrast. Made him a bit taller. The lighting comes from up left corner.
The middle one is yours. And the most right one is your pixel position with the colors from my edit.

Nice work Lad, though it's a bit too late, I already started to draw sprites. Though I'll use your tips later : )
