Title: First Walkcycle
Post by: Archangel (aka SoupDragon) on Sun 11/05/2003 20:23:15
Well, with some extensive help from Sylpher's tutorials, I had a go at making my character's first walkcycle. We've all met him before:

So, any crit?

Edit: Bleargh, dithering! If you could ignore the three dark pixels that jump around on his shirt sleeve, that would be great

It looks great.. He needs a face..

Only other thing I see wrong is that his neck is as big as his chest.. Slim it down so he doesn't have such a Hero-chest appearence.

Yeah... he looks good.
Maybe removing the one dark skin tone pixel under his chin would make his neck thinner. I was thinking his eye should be more to the front and lower and a shadow under his nose which could pass as his mouth. His arms, legs and the bounce in his step look really good. Looks like a lot of work went into him and it shows. He looks great.

Looks great, youve managed an almost perfect walk animation! There just seems to be one frame missing, the one where the leg would be raised above the ground, in the midway position, knees bent almost 90 degreed. Right now he's moonwalking forwards with feet sliding on the floor. I think one frame for each of the legs in the up position when its in the midway position is required.

yeah I thought that too..

It looks great, but It doesn't show he's raising his leg. If you look for a long time it appears he's moonwalking a bit :)

but it's not that disturbing.
Great work

Thanks for the replies.

First, about the 90° leg frame... it is there! For some reason you can't see it very well but I have stills proving it exists. Secondly, he looks a lot skinnier when in 320x200. Thirdly, someone said you should only draw mouths during a talk animation, so I listened to that advice.

Meh I made it seem like I haven't been listening to you guys. Ok, so I'll add in an extra frame between raising his lower leg off the ground and putting it back down in front, and see what happens.

Is that dark-dark-blue pixel on his sideburn supposed to be one of his eyes?  ::)

MrMasse: yes it is :P you just try putting it anywhere else and making it look good without increasing the resolution.

Ok, the downwards walk cycle gave me a lot more problems, here it is:

Archangel, thats the funniest thing I've seen in a while! I just love the way he stomps his way forward! The shadow movements on the pants great too.
