That's amazing! Just great job. The shadows on the street just look a bit... messy? But no other critics. Very good. :)

Lionheart

wow i've never seen a AGS game with such amazing background graphics before.

Thumbs up!

Khris

It's really great as a stand-alone pic.
However, using bgs like this in an AGS game is a different story.
It's very hard (not to say impossible) to make characters and objects look like they are part of the scene rather than glued onto it, especially with those distinct shadows.
Do you plan on making the chars and objects 3D, too, or are you gonna draw them?

KrisMacDee

:o Holy shi...p! These are amazing! But as krismac said would the objects and characters be prerendered 3d models?

Great-looking stuff! Vaguely reminds me of Brain Hotel somehow. I've never been into 3D modelling myself, so time-consuming. So kudos for pulling that off.

As Pablo pointed out, I'm just a bit baffled about the shadowy shape on the right half. And there is absolutely no way the lampost could cast a shadow like that in the current situation.

Thank for the kind words .
My best friend is doing the artwork and I'm doing the programming .
This will be a point and click so no main char , there will be some NPC that I will do with poser .
Doing this with AGS ..  you can see my is this scary post for some stuff I'm playing with .
Some of the oter stuff he has done for me just rocks ..
I will ask him about that shadow and see what he says

Good work!

For the first pic,

* Ray-traced shadows feel a bit... unrealistic. Even if they are realistic.

Their edges look too clean. Try either "fuzzing" the edges a bit in paint program or if you can do it in your modelling software, it'll be even better.

* Police stations are usually a bit more than just a building with a sign "police".
Try adding a little plague with some (doesn't have to be readable) text next to door. Like "Los Angeles 116th Police department" or something. Like real police stations are.

* There's no such thing as 100% white light. Add a tiny bit of yellow to all lights. But only veeery little bit...  :)

* While the streetlight looks good, the enourmous post looks a waste of material compared to little light attached to it. Why not add more lanterns and some ornaments to it? For example, something like that...

* Some bump mapping would do wonders to the otherwise repetitive and boring wall/sidewalk texture. If you're using 3ds max, it'll be super easy to do. Not sure about other programs...  :-\

About second image:

* This is where the shadows are REALLY needed. Where are they?

Candle

Thanks for the comments I'll see if he can fix that for me .
I did this last night but took awhile to render so just got it done today .
