Title: Frame from an animation...
Post by: The Book on Thu 23/06/2005 20:14:31
... that might or might not appear in "Sar" - although it most probably will.

Imperial fleet before the battle in Erebo Wosman system - the very battle that marked the onset of Empire's decay.

I hope you like it at least a bit :)

It's very unclear... what is that green stuff behind the fleet?

Looks like a mother ship to me.

That's right. Green stuff is the mother ship.

I hope it will look better when played.

more detail on the mothership? in starwars there's thousands of little things on it, yours looks a bit overstretched and rather plain.. lacking anything that would suggest its a mothership

Is that a 3d model and if so what program do you use? If it's max then I have a suggestion for a plugin that would help tons, if not than check out star wars screenshots just to see how random panels and such can add detail to a space ship even if they don't make sense.

Yes, it's a 3d model but it's not max, it's Blender... Thanks for advice, but as hard as I tried to add details to the texture the effect was always silly - so I left it this way.

There is a greeble plugin for blender called Red Dwarfer. I haven't used it but the link is on this page and could provide the effect Mr C. is talking about:

Here's their example of it in action (I hope this is visible):

If for any reason Red Dwarfer is no good, I stumbled over another similar plugin:

I would add some more stars of different size and intensity, many more, and perhaps a planet or two in the background.

Aside from random panels, i think the mothership could have some canons, tower defense, reactors, antenna, activated protection field etc...maybe a giant window for the cockpit?

Also i think some of the small ships are too close to eachother, making it rather confusing. Maybe a sort of glowing from reactors could help too.

I hope this can help a bit because i really like the feel of that scene!
