Post by: Phemar on Thu 04/03/2004 17:27:56

Hey, I was just fooling around and come up with this:

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Just a couple of things to try & help:

If you're going for warped perspective, try to make it look obviously warped - exaggerate a little more. As an example, the drawers at the moment look very haphazard - they should look at least a little similar, IMO. Of course, don't go over the top.

Bits of the lighting are wrong. For example, those bits around the door look a little weird, especially on the right one - all the lighting on that door would be the same shade when done in this style.

Also, the left side of the desk/bar would be lighter than the right side - the bar would put the right side in shade. And the back wall should be lighter.

Lastly, I don't like the monitor. Look at the shape of your own monitor & try to imitate the shape of that.

Hey thanks, it is supposed to be a really old monitor, so that's why the shape.

The texture(s) in the poster and out the window look out of place.  Because nothing else uses texturing like that!  I would suggest doing away with the textures.

Also, the blue of the walls is kind of bright ... maybe needs to be a little more neutral.

The over all look isn't too bad, but the lighting needs some work.  Here's a quick 10 minute job to demonstrate what I mean:

(doesn't necessarily need the light cone thing, I just wanted it obvious where the light source was)

Hope it helps!

There, how's this:

a biggie:

Just changed a few things, like light and some colours, added broken glass and stuff on the desk. looks alot better now.
The broken glass on the door is not yet finished. I am sure there is something wrong, I just can't seem to pinpoint it exactly.

I like the shading affects and the light... makes the room, and objects stand out, instead of being part of the background...

good job, the diffrences between the 1st version and the new one are clear. one thing that bothher me is the white thing behind the broken glass window. looks like it had been cut out of the picture.

Edit : sorry.. didnt't red the post carefully :)

\The broken glass on the door is not yet finished.

In other words that is not meant to be white stuff, I just haven't finished it yet.

if the landscape on the left is a picture/painting, then I love it-
But if it's a window then I think that you should use "transform" on it just a little so that the perspective fits te perspective of the room.

I think we're seeing a nice progression here.
After DM:s adjustments, this background is more than playable.

Much improved!

I like the new details on the keyboard/mouse/computer.

The doors look much better now, as do the shadows.

I also like the missing wallpaper parts as well.

There are two final suggestions I would make:
1) fix the perspective (if only slightly) on the bottom of the painting
2) add a pixel or two of the dark blue shading on the side of the door

An edit:

bigger:

Changed a few things, added the chair. Instead of using black outlines I used a darker shade of the object etc.

Hope you like it better now!

BTW: This is a background for my upcoming game: Counterfeit!

Here's one ultra mega quick edit:

2x
(http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/UMQE_insideyfor.gif)
I tried to make the broken window transparent.

The chair looks great, just add a shadow under it.

Anyway, that's a great background 8)!

Good luck with your game!
