Post by: TheDude on Wed 06/08/2003 18:21:56
Based on the lead singer of Pearl Jam

Added some more shading to make shirt more 3d:

He's for a 320x200 res by the way.

Hey

Ted Vedder, circa Ten.  It's mucho pretty, but..

El numero one:  His shirt looks too flat, for want of a better word.  It seems to need a bit more shading.

Two:  His shins look like they are made of molten lava.  This is more of a comment than a criticism, as I like them.  Kinda like he's had a leg-swap op with the Thing, from the Fantastic Four.

Trois:  His neck seems somewhat pale.

Hugs

I think it rocks!! but only criticism would be that green light shading on shirt - on his back. keep the shading on his front..tone down shading on back.

Eddie Vedder ...  Rock on!

I agree with Necro about the shading on the back view.  The only thing I would add would be to make his legs a little skinnier (if possible).  But that's only if you're trying to make it Eddie Vedder ... otherwise, if it's an original character, leave as is.  It looks great!

I can't see the images anymore. :(

I hope they start working soon, so we got do some criticizin'. But by what I saw yesterday, it was kick-ass. The only thing that caught my eye were the 'lava shins' and the highlights on the face. I don't think the high value is the problem, but perhaps have it show a bit less, so there's more of the mid-value showing.

Or something, hopefully the images start to show. :)

(i) The strong contrast in the face makes the rest seem still too flat imo; that or his forehead is really glossy.

(ii) Another shading issue would be the lightsource placement. His face seems lit from above while his shirt looks as if lit from the left.

(iii) A perspective thing would be the socks that looks too tilted imo (towards the viewer) (especially the left one from our point of view)

(iv) His legs looks a bit too fat or muscular, not matching the rest of his body as I see it - especially in the backview. Perhaps cut some pixel in the kneearea.

(v) His pants looks very wide in the waistarea. I m guessing his shirt is tucked in but the extra pixelwidth is too much imo.

(vi) Since he seems pretty muscular or fat his forearms looks disproportionally thin imo.

All in all I really like it, especially the face.

Not that it's a bad thing to base characters on pre-existing sprites (it sure makes animation easier), but he looks mysteriously similar to the main character from 'Beneath a Steel Sky'  ;)

Looks different enough to get away with it, though. Nice work.

Yes i took the face and the feet (so it's easier to line up the walkcycle)  from BASS and his walkcycle will also be based on it. Speaking of the walkcycle i just added a few frames to the image and took away the highlights from his front view. I don't think the walking views look all that great so i'll probably start again, he looks a little too butch and the shading's messed up, it's pretty hard to do :(.

I'll try and fix some more of the stuff you guys have suggested.

EDIT: Here's the BASS walkcylce by the way - http://www.agsforums.com/yabb/index.php?board=3;action=display;threadid=7687;start=0
4th post down i think.

I tried to unbutchen him for the front and back view:
