Title: Gui style (animated pic)
Post by: Synthetique on Sat 26/07/2003 16:56:19
Right click to pop this up where the cursor is.
Then right click to cycle clockwise and left click to go counterclockwise.
To confirm and exit, just move the cursor a few pixels.

This one is for my Tamagochi clone game. It's a bit more advanced than just the simple old tamagochi game. But more detail on that later.

1: Interact with objects and other stuff.
2: Pick up and drop things somewhere else.
3: Save and Load.
4: The inventory box.
5: Statistics on the little bastard.
6: Examine things.
7: The almighty Good-Baad Hand! (Cuddle.. or slap his head off)

C&C please on style and stuff, thank you.

Can you make the Tamagochi's color stand out a bit, perhaps with an otuline... kinda hard to see him where as the others are really easy...
just my opinion.

Yes!  Good looks and functionally feasible.  I agree with Scummbuddy, though, make the little grey blob more distinct, possibly different depending on which tamagotchi you are playing with.

how about i get tedious.
the green doublepixel to the left of the tamagochi kinda bugs me. (the one along the outer ring)

about what you said about it looking good in the game is fine. thats what matters.

I think it would be more intuitive to use right click to bring up menu, then move mouse over preferred action, then click again to select (and/or instead two clicks, click/hold then let go). This is what Windows uses, so we're used to it.

edit: was not clear the first time

I hate it when there's a separate icon for pick up and interact. One of these is always reduntant for any one object in a game. A single hand icon should work for both, since you can either pick up an object or interac with it, not both. Also right clicking to move thru icons seems tedious. Having save/load and statistics on the popup would also irritate me during gameplay when I keep clicking on those by mistake when all I need to do is examine/use something.

i tried this thing in the game, and i cant get used to it.
how about making it clickable then?

left click to choose.

Excellent!

This is exactly what I wanted to create for my game.  I just didn't know if it was possible!  This is awesome!  I have to admit, yours looks better than what I've come up with so far :)

The other idea that I had (while looking at your picture here) would be that while you're mouseOver the button for inventory you could right and left click to scroll through your inventory items and the pictures could be in the middle of the ring as you scroll through.

So I'm assuming there's a way to have the GUI pop-up in the position the cursor is located when you right click?  Because that's what I need to make mine work (I know ... this should be in a different section)
