Title: Happy children music for documentary
Post by: Nikolas on Sat 29/10/2005 21:20:23
I have to write 30+ sec of music for a very short documentary about AIDS. I haven't seen any footage, but the idea is that there are three children one of which has AIDS.

There is playing, fingers and stuff like that.

The director wants the music to be children music. Happy music. Funny. And uncontrolled. I don't know if I have succeded in all that. It is rather strange, and a little detuned. Everything is being done on purpose. But is it happy?

Any ideas are more than welcome. I'm not looking for mixxing or mastering sugestions but rather for ideas to make it any better, happier or funnier...It doesn't matter if you are musically minded or not. Just tell me what you think...

It is only 33 sec and 0.5 Mb.

Thank you

That sounds cool. It's funny and happy, but I don't know what you mean by uncontrolled.

What is the strange noises that sound like water in the background?

I don't know either. The director used that word, over a smal discussion we had, over the net.

The sounds in the back are actually strange percussion, tempered with EQ. This is sort of how it sounds in a kidergarden (ok, sort of...)

Thanx Guy

Right now, I'm working on it, and I'm actually adding more weird noises and basiaclly more bell like, toy like, small sounds that play like broken toys. Is this a good idea, or am I overdoing it?

PS. I'm much better at writting "bad" and "strange" music than this  :P :-X :-\ (all three apply here)

I have no musical talent whatsoever, so I feel kinda awkward posting here.

My suggestion, take it or leave it, is to make the tempo a bit quicker. The melody sounds a tiny bit slow and sad to me as it is. Just a tiny bit.

<<< EDIT >>>

This is what I understand by childlike and uncontrolled (http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/HAPPY.MID)

But you know much more than I do about this sort of stuff.

What if you put some sort of staccato chord on the upbeat (like in reggae). It seems also like the melody sound could be a bit more percussive, like a celesta. Just a little faster maybe, though the upbeat staccato chords will make it seem faster.
