I did this scene a few months ago. It was my second pic I made for the game:

Now here's my new one!

(I like the second one better!)  :)
Enjoy!

The biggest problem I have with your buildings is that they look like 3d models with textures on them. By that I mean that the walls end in perfect right angles and the rocks don't seem to have depth. That is the one problem I have. Some overlapping rocks that go from one side to the next would be dandy I think and especially ones that pop out from the straight outline of the buiding would work wonders.

Other than that rock on with your bad self.

Yeah, I prefer the second one more....

The rocks do look kinda flat though, like they're rock wallpaper or something. I couldn't even begin to tell you how to fix it though...just thought I'd throw my 2 cents in....

I like the picture though, And I think it'll go well with the other stuff you've posted. Looks like a cool game your making so rock on....

Corby

Yeah, I have no idea on how to fix those rocks either... I'll just leave it until later for the final art.
Oh and my buildings are 3d models with texture!  :) I draw a 3d structure with just lines then add texture! I'll try to fix those problems with the edges though! Thanks guys!

Well, you seem to have a better grasp on art than I do, but an aproach you might try would be to make the shadows more defined...

Kinda like this maybe? But better...of course....

Edit===##@23
Of course those red lines are just guide lines to kinda show what I mean....I don't actaully mean for you to draw red lines on your crap....

Okay...I'm out...

evilspacefart

Call me wierd but I like the first one. Looks more cartoony and has its own personality. Second one looks more uniform.
Either way they are both cool. :)

MrColossal

also adding depth to the wooden slats would help a lot

cause now they're just stuck to the walls totally flat

Looking very good :)
What i like more on first picture are foreground objects. Blue color adds to depth and contrast.
Also, it looks less "Photoshopy". Problem with those nifty new grass and leafs brushes, is that they might look nice at first, but as always with default effects/brushes, they soon become too easily recognized (if not used very carefully). Think Poser, lens-flare, etc.

Other than that, really great work.

I've actually tried to use the same settings as the foliage brushes with different brush patterns... most ended up looking pretty much the same so I stuck to the default. I'd like to make a brush with more smooth edges, like an oval .. first I have to figure out how to make my own brushes... someday!

What's Len's Flare BTW? Poser is 3D characters or something like? I'll do some research!

Minimi

Poser is a program by curious labs, in wich you can built easily 3d characters, but most of them look about the same, and in one view you recognize that they are built in Poser.

Lens Flair.. is by example a filter of photoshop, wich gives you those yellow dodges and lines, that you see on a picture that is taken with a sun in it.

Corby

Oh right, I've played with that filter before. I hope my use of the foliage brush isn't too unoriginal looking. I turn the size down to 6 so it no longer looks like a maple leaf but rather a random leafy feel. Should I develop a more original brush?

I really like your texturing style!

Which program(s) do you use for the 3d models?
This signature intentionally left blank.

earlwood

I love your style man, but I think the grass looks like water with little ripples in it and a lot alge.  :P

Even that isn't something amazingly bad or some kind of visual ipicac so, you're still really good.

JD

They both look very good, but I also think the first one looks better... The only
thing that bugs me a bit is the background. It looks like the hut is on a cliff..
If it is, just ignore me :)

plastic

although the 2nd pic shows improvement, i think it lacks that nice "painted" feel from the 1st. those textures are a bit generic and make the image flat (that's particularly visible in the grass).

but for me the main problem is that the perspective of the house doesn't seem to match that of the rest of the pic. as Def said, it looks like there's a cliff behind the bushes and even if it's the case, it looks odd.
if you're using a 3d model, then you could just lower the horizon line.
something like this (yours is on the left):

Wow, so much to do! First thing's first though, I made my own foliage brush in photoshop. It's a regular looking leaf, the kind you'd think about other than a maple leaf. I've used my brush and the photoshop default brush to compare. I think there isn't a huge differance, but I'll be using my own brush from now on after I edit it a bit more:
