Hello comunity.

I have working from one year and a half ago in my first serious project with AGS, But I was paused like eigth months o more of this time, by personal problems (...)

Well, I never call for help before, but as I want to retake my job and finish this enjoyable game (for me at last xD) I decided to share some backgrounds with you, to take your .... ¿opinion? (sorry, I'm not very good writing in english..).

I show you the general like of the characters, for your consideration respect the backgrounds.

This four backgrounds are selected 'cause they're very different between, and the "prision block", the initial room of the game, doesn't like to me u_u Possibly my worst job.

PD: Soon I'll put the preview thread in the announced game in work forum, with a demo in a month,  and a threat in the "searching for group" to helping me finishing the game

PD: I ever used Corel Paint shop Pro but i'm having problems of functioning. I'm triying to install another version.... You prefer Adobe photoshop? Is irrelevant?

I believe photoshop is a good software for background, capable of change size, colours, etc, and very proffesional..

Everything works really well with the style as is and I think any changes that COULD be made would effect the style of it all, the one thing I might suggest is that you make the text on the wall in the levers room more coherent with the rest of your styl, it just feels a little out of place. Other than that, everything is very nice.

Good comentary. You mean, drawing the text more cartonish, maybe?

Anyway, what suggestion of stylechange you think?

There is a general sense of curve t the whole space station like it's a giant doughnut floating in space. What I mean about making it more coherent with the rest of the style is that you use a lot of curves, the oval doors, the tube like corridor, the round outline of the lever room, the round evelvators, even rounded shadowing on the wall; there's a lot of curves about the place and then there is this super straight text. Maybe try to transform it a bit, give it a bit of a blur, whatever.

I did this mostly to give you ideas not as how I actually want it to look.
Changes: I moved the door more to the center because the space to the right of it felt empty, then I moved the text to directly above the door, rotated it a few degrees to match the bow of the door and then change dthe perspective to smalleron the right hand side a bit. There still felt like too much empty space so I put in a room monitor, not exactly sure what it couldbe used for, maybe to clue the user in on the puzzle, maybe as a savepoint, dunno. Anyways, now that I have the computer there I could probably have moved the door back to it's original position, but it was too much work to move it over, so...

Wow, yes, the little change gets more credibility to the room.

Your comment of the Round shape of all the ship... well, sometimes is only the way to "cut" the walls for the player eyes...

Anyway, When I be capable of manage photoshop (I was good with paint shop pro but i'm unable actually to run the program..) I will see the exact position of the door in this image... And I possibly adopt your computer editing a bit, is cute ^^

I know you've got your own wacky style to drawing, but there were some things that bothered me on the prison block.

You avoided all perspectives on each of the beds (i'm assuming they were double layer beds).
You avoided perspectives on the two walls between each cell.

Things I changed:
I gave you an idea of what width and angles the beds should be on. 
-The way they were looking, i couldn't see half of a person laying on them; and they'd also roll into the wall.

I moved the left dividing wall closer to where the lasers would be (following the line of the tiles on the floor) and corrected the perspective.
-The way you had it, an inmate could easily squeeze between the dividing wall and into the other cell.  Especially if your beds were as narrow as they were.

I also added some markings on the one cell wall to give you an idea of how to make things less boring.


I drew the lasers just for an example to show how far the dividing wall was.  (If I were to make a 'laser' type wall for the inmates, I'd put a narrow bar up on the foreground wall.  That way the lasers wouldn't just be there, you could understand where they stop, and where the see-through wall stops.

Some pillows might be nice too, but they are inmates they don't deserve them.

Also other things you could do to make your rooms more interactive, would be to have some air exchange vents and what-not.  You should always give a player something to interact with.

Ryan, you gave me a lot of inspiration and good ideas to this first room (that evers disguisted for me a little).
When I have ready the new screen, I gonna upload here.

One question; The Laser Beams are not creating (now) little laser lines, They create a solid energy-wall. Cause this the gap in the wall is lesser great.... Anycase, I'm going to change some points... When I finish you'll see.

I would assume that the others bgs are better?

Well, I half-done the BG for finished (there was little changes, maybe the great changes are the Ryan Timothy beds and some copied graffitis that I loved.

That's a Beneath a Steel Sky cursor is it not? :)

I really like the pose of the guy sitting against the wall...

Are your characters scaled in some way, because it seems like it, and it effects the quality quite severely?

The Tiles in the floor don't seem to match the perspective of the Force fields, just a small note, other then that, its great.. wish I could draw that good

Yes, one week ago, the game has the beneath at steel sky GUI, but recently I changed it for a customized verbcoin gui with Spacegui graphics, and the game have gain a LOT. Now the two actions have changed for four customizable actions for every object and hotspot, and is really cool.

Maybe the characters are scaled in this sshot, cause the proximity to the player eye in the game, but in the major part of the BGs, the scale isn't to much big.

Yeah, the perspective don't match U_U But I'm trying to finish the demo (Only a bunch of new animations and a pair of BG's) to upload the demo beat soon. Later I will fix little problems as this. the game have a lot of BGs and I can haste much time (And I have to make a estetic philosophy work in this weeks xD
